Apple backtracks on +17 code

Steve Jobs listens to developers shokka

FRUIT THEMED TOYMAKER Apple appears to have backtracked on a decision to forbid promotions for adult-themed games for its Iphone applications shop.

Last week Apple prohibited the use of promo codes for apps with a 17+ rating because it did not want to get saddled with claims that it was pushing porn or violence.

According to PC World, the Disneyland level of censorship Apple imposed had developers of software tagged with 17+ ratings up in arms.

This was not because they were peddling porn but because all applications that access online services like Twitter and Facebook get 17+ ratings, as do any apps with embedded web browsers.

Promo codes are one of the best avenues available for Iphone apps developers to promote and freely distribute their software, so Apple taking away that marketing tool understandably got the affected developers mightily miffed.

It seems that Apple actually listened to what was being said about it on the Iphone developer websites and soon realised it had made a bit of a mistake. µ

Toy Maker?

I didn't realise Apple Inc would be regarded as a toy maker...

NewsAddict is adult!

Apple's 17+ seems to apply to news as well. NewsAddict (access to a bunch of online newspapers) has a 17+ rating, after all there are rapes, murders, war and fat people in the news.
