Intel snips prices

Matches AMD’s top-sellers on price
Tue Jul 21 2009, 12:06

INTEL HAS TAKEN the scissors to the price tags on their processors and snipped anywhere between four per cent and 19 per cent off its mid-range and low-end chips.

As of 19 July, OEMs received this here price list with the latest cuts in Intel’s CPUs. Naturally these are available to OEMs only, and then only on 1K trays, which in fact isn’t that much different from retail pricing as there are several things that aren’t factored in.intel-price-list

Looking at this you could say AMD should be worried, but then Intel is reacting right where AMD’s Phenom II processors are making a splash.

Intel has levelled out its Q9400 and Q9300 processors at about the same price point as AMD’s top-selling X4 940 Black Edition. Chipzilla’s low-power Q9400S and Q8400S are placed just above and below AMD’s equivalent (more or less) Phenom II X4 905e level and has cut prices on its lower-end dual-core models throughout, just in case people start looking at the $99 Phenom II X2 3.1GHz (and the tri-cores for that matter).

No moves were made in Core i7 territory, those are being saved for early September as Lynnfield reaches the market and boxes start to shift in droves due to back-to-school.

Pretty self-explanatory, eh? µ

Meh...Waiting for back to school cuts

Those are some very insignificant cuts. (Small cuts to only some of their chips.)

It confirms that both AMD and Intel has decided to lay off on aggressive price cutting for the time being, as it would only harm both of them.

I am waiting until September/October when AMD is going to releases a bunch of new chip. Also waiting for 32 nm Intel chips but not so interested in those as they will cost an arm and a leg. (Expecting 6 and 8 core chips to cost $2000).

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
