THERE ARE RUMOURS, and then there are great big recurring 'it must be true' rumours. Talk of Apple's tablet machine falls into the latter category.
So far there's no official word, but according to some publications some of their sources reckon that Apple's Holy Grail tablet will be released later this year.
Neowin quotes a price of $800, while someone over at Macforums has taken the time to translate an article from the China Times that claims "Taiwan's high-tech supply chain companies said Apple will debut its first netbook in October; Apple will pose itself to tackle the Christmas shopping season. Three corporations - Foxconn, Wintek, Dynapack have received direct orders from Apple".
In case you aren't paying attention at the back, Wintek is the company that previously said it had sold Apple a load of touchscreen panels, while the other firms are both regular attendees in netbook announcements.
The China Times adds, "During the past several years, there have been countless rumors about Apple competing [in] the netbook market, but this year, Apple formally finalised orders for netbooks."
With Apple set to burst currently acceptable netbook pricing conventions you might be wise to start saving now for a Christmas release. After all, the kids are sure to want oversized Ipods. µ
It is a no-brainer, from the very first day i started using the iTouch, I thought it would be "out-of-the-world" great to have the screen size at 10-inch or 14-inch. Instead of the regular 3.5-inch.
A Touch-Book so to speak.
"we dont know how to make a sub $500 laptop that is not utter crap" (cant be arsed to get the quote direct)
So to make sure its not utter crap you stick a $800 price tag and problem solved.... right?
That would be iTouchBook so to speak.
"we dont know how to make a sub $500 laptop that is not utter crap"
But we sure know how to make a CRAP that COSTs $800 and how to make you suckers queue for it in the middle of the night in peak(bottom?) of the depression...
"Neowin quotes a price of $800..."
No, the Apple tablet will have a solid machined aluminum body and sell for $1600, because, well, because!
... what self-respecting Apple fanboy would buy one and then call it anything less than God's gift to fanboy world? To buy Apple is to become a self-fulfilling prophecy: I bought it therefore it's excellent and It's excellent therefore I bought it.
"The emperor has no clothes", as I pat my new, dual boot Asus EeePC 1000HE out the door at less than $350.
hella yeah, hat is the correct term.
and yeah they'll be eaten up like candy
I still think no one has scored a direct hit in the netbook market yet, and if anyone could pull it off it would be Fruit Company.
Netbooks are crying out for a dramatic rethink on the user interface side. So far all netbooks are just cramped notebooks, they do nothing more than regular-sized notebooks do, and do it less well.
Apple missed the mark with the MBA, but they were at least thinking in the right direction. Maybe this time they'll get it right.
Anti-Apple and anti-Linux fanboys sometimes can be more idiotic than Apple and Linux fanboys.
If you folks are suggesting that $800 is too much for a tablet computer with a bundled tablet OS, bundled photo software, bundled hand recognition software, word processing, etc. . . .
Then I bet you folks were PISSED when Microsoft introduced a tablet PC costing from $2000-$4000 with the Windows tablet OS and Office Suite!
Oh. . . and how much is Windows 'Surface' anyway? And where's the fricking ZunePhone? And ZuneTouch?
