Carphone Warehouse abandons Phorm

Too much like bad PR
Wednesday, 8 July 2009, 15:23

CARPHONE WAREHOUSE ISP Talk Talk has ended its agreement with Phorm, a further blow to the purveyor of "personalised advertising services" after BT dumped the company Monday.

Phorm had been hoping to bring its Webwise technology, which provides advertising based on an internet user's browsing history, to the UK mass market. Phorm's shares have shed more than half of their value since Monday. Pro-privacy critics will be delighted.

However, other ISPs are keen to use the company's tracking software, with a trial ongoing with South Korean ISP KT and two others. Phorm claims it is in talks with 15  potential partners in as many countries.

Virgin Media is still keeping an eye on the company but it isn't known whether or not it plans to implement the controversial ad software.

Phorm probably thought us Brits would take to its software because we are used to being spied on. µ

PHRM.L

Share price was, last I checked, 201.87p, down over 50% from Friday's close of 475p. And it couldn't happen to a better bunch of ignorant, arrogant people. Even their PHRX.L stock is dropping (265p down from 455p close).

Keep an eye on InsightReady (nee NebuAd), Google, Adzilla, Audience Science, Kindsight (nee Project Rialto) and the rest. The war's not over yet.
