Four SSDs, RAID 0, RocketRAID 4310 on Windows 7

A REAL MAN has four Corsair SSDs in RAID 0 plugged to a Highpoint RocketRAID 4310 card running under Windows 7… or at least that’s what HardOCP has. Find out just how insane a performance you get out of this setup.

The fruit-flavoured 13.3-inch MacBook Pro is reviewed at Thrusted Reviews. Returned is the FireWire plug (well it is “Pro” innit?), only in a neater, sleeker, smaller shell. Andy has no qualms in recommending said pomme.

Motherboards.org follows up on this with a video review of the same 13.3-inch MacBook Pro, only this time it’s been upgraded with twice the RAM *and* an 80GB SSD. Just see those apps zoom.

TweakToons has a review on the A-Data X Series Ver2 PC3-12800 3x2GB kit. These are meant to be treated with some serious overclocking but the added active cooling keeps things cool. Good overall results, lots of potential.

Tweaknews is enjoying the grand life of a 55-inch panel on the Samsung 120Hz LN55A950 LCD TV. Despite its 120Hz pedigree it doesn’t keep up with the video motion (crap DSP?). Still, “a step in the right direction”.

Silent PC Review got round to testing the Moneual MonCaso 301 HTPC. Although based on an older AMD platform, the case is soundproofed, well vented and looks pretty good. The remote is the cherry on top of the cake.

Notebook Review takes on the Acer Aspire One D250-1165 netbook. It’s a cheaper (yay!), sub-$300, version of the original D250, lacking BT and sporting a miserly 3-cell battery, but heck... someone will buy it.

PC Perspective takes a gander at the budget Gigabyte MA770-UD3P motherboard. Based around the AMD 770 chipset, this is the cheapest AM3 mobo Steve could find. Performance was comparable to its big brothers, for only a fraction of the price.

In the land down under, OCAU has an all-round AMD CPU shootout. You can see just how much of an improvement the new Phenom IIs are over the original Phenom.

Hexus looks at the MSI N275GTX Twin Frozr OC graphics card. You can figure this one out by the name: dual fans pumping air on the card (and apparently into the chassis). Pricey, though.

BCC Hardware is layering on the new thermal compounds. Jason has rounded-up all the latest TIMs and put them through some heavy torture tests. They’re all winners, though.

Extremetech just got some new HTPC cases, in fact, enough to do a HTPC case roundup. If you like the subject, it’s a must-read.

Anandtech gazes long and deep at the Bigfoot Networks Killer Xeno Pro network card. It’s a big price tag that could be otherwise invested in a better graphics card or CPU, but if you really need to have the best, this’ll give you an edge. µ

If you read the article the diagrams answer your question. RAID has nothing to do with the overhead of drives, it's purpose is to introduce parallel drive accesses and/or mirroring. These effects are shown in the benchmark figures from the link.

What does RAID 0 buy you with SSDs?

Naively, I can't see right away what benefit you get from RAID 0 when you are using SSDs anyway. I thought the point of RAID 0 was to avoid the overhead of seeking and rotational delays - which SSDs don't have, surely?

Still, performance doesn't often lie very much. It would be nice to know what difference adding RAID 0 makes compared to the equivalent non-RAID setup.

Damage go look again

Quote form the site,
"We are pairing four Corsair P256 with the Intel ICH10R Southbridge to see how far we can push it and then for good measure we’ll include the Highpoint RocketRAID 4310 RAID card to see if we can unlock more performance"

Intel ICH10R Southbridge, I thought that was common to most users not? Besides, people whom don't buy deluxe motherboards or avoid Intel for the cost won't have to deal with it anyway as they wouldn't dare spend that much money on SSD drives in the first place.

SSD

A great article about SSD in raid that mentions nothing about increased wear or decreased performance due to wear, and goes so far to test these fast little beasties on an "average" brand raid card, woohoo.

fruit-flavoured ?

Fruit-Themed might be one thing, but having never found the urge to actually lick one of their computers, I'll have to take your word for that.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
