Google doesn’t recognise independence

Gmail glitch, or 4th of July prank?
Friday, 3 July 2009, 16:50

THE INQUIRING EYE of the INQ has uncovered a quirk in Google's Gmail today which, we assume, is probably an over-thought prank for the 4th of July weekend.

If you type the word "independence" into the main body of text, a spell check will quickly tell you the word isn’t recognised. Gmail does, however, give users the option of correcting the supposedly misspelt word, to the exact same word, which it still refuses to recognise as being correct. And thus the loop begins again.

gmail

Are we to believe that Google doesn’t recognise independence, just as America starts to celebrate that very day of its own independence from the United Kingdom?

Or could it be the work of nefarious British hackers?

If you ask us, Google's just yanking our chain. µ

Perhaps the CIA is cutting back its budget and now needs to use theinq to send secret communications?

So? What's Your Point?

Outlook and word have done this for years. Probably other MS products since I rectum they all use the same basic engine.

Not news Robbie; have you just used up most of your 300 words for today and just needed to hack something together?

Googles Chineese Takeover

Actually, they have been taken over by Our Chineese Overlords, who have banned any reference to Tibet, Tianaman Square and Taiwan.

Of course, American Independence must be surrendered, so they can be intergrated back into the Mother land.

Indeed, so must all other counties! Those naughty little provinces!!!!

The Police.

@Drashek

Giant steps are what I take
Running from the loon
I hope my leg don't break
Running from the loon
I could run for ever
Running from the loon
Running hell-for-leather

Running from
Running from the loon...

Sorry, I just couldn't resist. Perhaps someone could tell me why the Firefox spell-check underlines words like "and" and "isn't" as being incorrect?

You know what

We are under seige by the 50c Chinese Squad and by other groups, inc those in the US.
Basic stratergy is to just pollute the Internet with as much spam etc as you can muster. Then when we all get tired of it, Internet II shall come to the rescue. Nice tight controls, everyone has to loggin, you purchase credits and you spend them on visiting sites and paying for services etc. They are sick of piracy and free speech and it has to be controlled.

Get used to it..
