CHIPZILLA'S former chief executive and chairman, Craig Barrett has told observers not to expect too much from Intel's technology partnership with Nokia right away.
He warned that it will take a few years for the partnership to bear fruit.
Mobile industry analysts and pundits had hailed last week's announcement that Chipzilla inked a deal with Nokia.
They claimed it could give the chipmaker the breakthrough it has been looking for in the mobile market.
Basically the deal means working out a new class of mobile computing devices, but neither side is saying when they will come to market or give details on the kinds of wireless products they hope to develop.
Barrett was not telling anyone either, although he seemed to have mysteriously popped up in Helsinki to share a few words of wisdom with the local press.
According to Reuters, Barrett said that it will take a few years to see if the deal ultimately will be successful. µ
Of course this partnership will not become a commitment that Intel will become the only sole supplier for Nokia in terms silicon grab (every functional chip supplied from The Evil Company). Nokia is not dumb enough like Dell (before 2006, Apple (current) and Cisco (Current) that they want to become bitch servant for Intel.
Nokia know that they have been gaining using multiple chip supplier especially from Texas Instruments, Freescale, Broadcom and Qualcomm. They always get benefits like competitive prices from multiple manufacturer in their product lines.
I think,- it may be new Wintel (aka this time: NIntel) deal:
Intel has deep pockets, and put a lot of into this market (smartphones) to outcome those rivals like Texas Instruments, Freescale, Broadcom, Qualcomm and Nvidia and start to dictate fashion here, others who doesn`t have such deep pockets lose the game, so will be left the only "king of the hill". It`s not so simple, because, there are others platforms such as Android, stevesPhone, winMobile, but as technology behind smartphones evolves, R&D become very costly, weakest hardware makers will left this market, leaving 2-3 strongest and may be one, of those strongest, will be str0nger then others
this place is boring after charlie left. what were you people thinking ? now it sounds like any industry rag, like there is not as much point coming here...
