THE WORST might be over for the technology market, according to the prophecy division at Forrester Research.
After staring for some days into a pool of ink, the analysts see better days ahead for the technology industry, despite some of the worst first quarter figures on record.
After receiving confirmation from the coffee grounds, the research firm revised its forecast for 2009. It now expects the US technology market to shrink by five percent this year.
Ironically this is worse than what it was telling us in March when it predicted a three per cent decline in spending on technology products and services, but that might have been due to a dirty coffee cup.
Forrester says that the recession and the big drops in business investments are the reasons for the decline. But it thinks that businesses and governments overreacted to last year's credit crunch and the ensuing global recession.
It says that buyers had cut back too much on spending in the past nine months and when they realise that the recession is not as deep, or as long-lasting, as they had feared, they will resume technology spending.
The research outfit expects the US tech sector will hit bottom in the third quarter and begin to recover in the fourth. It predicts that growth will resume in 2010, when it expects telecom spending to grow by about 7 per cent.
Spending on computer products is also expected to decline by 10 per cent this year, though it will increase by nearly 12 percent next year.
Even so, 2010 spending will still be lower than 2007, Forrester said. µ
All the people that lost their jobs are just settling in a work less atmosphere, buying SOME tech and getting occupied with it. Hobby wise.
When that is done, the end of your article does put it mildly 2007 = 2010.
Economically, food will be the last front, did you know that Africa's starvation was measured on the lack of access to western food there? Now it has changed into localized food used as a demographic weapon!
With the level of malnourishments and what we have to deal with here in the western world, for instance our food is broken down into chemicals then reassembled, AH yuck! I think Africa's got it good even better at a chance of getting REAL genuine food.
I would think this would beat tech hands down.

Record unemployment and the closing of businesses all over would suggest we haven't seen the worst yet. Number Spinning is real popular in these turbulent economic times...
I would just like to point out that 2010 does not equal 2007 because conditions are different and 2007 was the end of an era.
Specifically the bubble burst and house of cards came tumbling down because the global economy and more especially the US economy came under telling stress due to the price of oil and the huge costs of securing same from bad people ^.-
The current low price of oil is a temporary lull, due to mercifully (deliberately) high production and recession levels of demand. The dynamic of rising oil prices will resume when the economy picks up and demand outstrips future supply. This will stress the economy in the same way that lead to the collapse and hinder productivity.
The mega boom times will not come again until we have replaced oil as an energy sauce. The sun is apparently giving energy away on a daily basis, we just have to pay to collect it. Once we have seen the era of our ways a new error can begin.
