No one in this business can guarantee anything for certain - Ian McNair, VP at HPQ
WHETHER OR NOT we think the graphics market is already overcrowded, Mushkin is ready for a second attempt at graphics cards with help from its little green friends at Nvidia.
The memory-maker is launching – right now - nine new graphics cards based on the GTX 260, GTX 275 and GTX 285, with stock and OC versions. But it won’t stop there.
Keeping its options open, the company will soon release graphics cards from AMD. This should prove interesting given Mushkin's good ties with the European channel.
The AMD range will include several of the current stable: HD 4770, HD 4850, HD 4890 and possibly (depending on negotiations) HD 4870X2. Launch dates we can guess are pre-Windows 7 release because DirectX 11 parts will be arriving by then.
The cards will come in wooden boxes called “WoodBox” *cough*. In the past Mushkin has bundled cards with merchandise such as shirts and baseball caps.
This is second time around for Mushkin. It launched 8800GT cards in January 2008, but failed to make an impact. Will this attempt be any different?
“We've started [again] with graphics, because we've got good connections to the vendors and many people [are] asking us why we don’t have graphic cards. Well now we have,” said Georgios Kopanidis, Mushkin’s EMEA boss.
Mushkin claims it has a reputation for high-performance at affordable prices, so we'll look forward to getting our mitts on the cards and putting that boast to the test. µ
Makes sense for me, that they try this with did not follow other memory makers.
Comes in a wooden box? That's actually kind of neat.
(Remember the good old days when all sorts of electronics came with a wood, or at least faux wood finish? This is a good return, just so long a they don't try to make the heatsink out of wood, too.)
In South Africa mushkin Cards were available (GTX260, GTX 275) since Mid May this year.
And to the First Poster, Yes THey haVe REleased SSD's! One even has a miniUSB connector to use as an External Drive!
And the Wooden Box thing is cool, Apparently the Mushkin name is burned in.
I was at one time a mushkin fan. Until they wouldnt honor there lifetime warantee. They expected me to keep the original packaging for 5 years. I didnt so they refused to honor it. read the fine print on there warantee. The only problem is 5 yrs ago they didnt state you had to keep the bubble wrap just not pull off the warantee sticker. Which are still there on my ram and intact.
