The cows in here are small. The cows outside are far away.
NEW CHANNEL PRICING from Intel sees ‘largely unchallenged’ Core i7 processors stay at their existing price points, sources tell us.
However the battered old Core 2 chips like the Q9400 have dropped by a Texan BBQ sized $33, something sure to make Austin based AMD have a cow, man.
But If AMD fails to successfully challenge Intel at any given price point, it will ultimately be us poor punters who suffer the consequences. µ
I hope they will have a viable products to competes Intel products and their aggressive pricing.
is there a list somewhere?
"But If AMD fails to successfully challenge Intel at any given price point, it will ultimately be us poor punters who suffer the consequences. µ"
What does that even mean? If you take a price and go to Newegg, AMD will have something just as good or even better if platform costs are taken into account.
This is why Intel does what they want. I just don't remember this type of thing before Core 2. Sure, people loved Athlon64, but they were taking money to limit AMD purchases.
the price list is on Intel Corporate's site, as always (you can bookmark it), at:
http://www.intc.com/priceList.cfm
keep in mind though that the prices are only for batches of 1 THOUSAND+ units only, not for average users that only buy one or two CPUs.
@Some Guy
Agreed, AMD's price to performance ratio knocks the socks off of Intel.
Wow, are you ever the moron :~)
For the hard of thinking, let me explain... AMD stops at the Phenom II X4 955
Above that sits (more of) the Corei7 series
No challenge = No price movement
That simple enough for you ?
I just read another article which stated "AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE: Price cut to 175 Euro". Looking into the article this is a 25 euro drop, i don't exactly know the conversion rate but it should be equivalent to roughly $33.
I Seriously think the 955 could give the i7 920 a run for its money, it may not be as fast but its close and a hell of a lot cheaper. Stresses prices.
Adi, while we as consumers don't buy 1,000 at a time, retailers do and will be sold at very close to these 1,000 unit prices listed.
Those saying AMD is cheaper aren't taking power usage into account.
Salute the new AMD offspring, the Phenom II 965 3.4Ghz.
And remember, Phenom II 940 is the direct rival for the Q9550, not for the Q9400.

You're forgettin something:
Corei7 2,66Ghz 130w
AMD Istambul 6-core 2.6Ghz 75w
The Istambul performs as better or more than a Xeon Nehalem @3-3.2Ghz. Right now they are the champions in efficiency/core related to energy consumption.
They're talking desktop chips.
