Christmas will bring joy to PC makers

Sales are bound to get better
Friday, 26 June 2009, 09:21

THE GREEN EYESHADES GANG at IT analyst firm Gartner have consulted their Tarot cards and decided that this Christmas will be good for PC makers.

Gartner noted that computer manufacturers bank on the holiday season for a large portion of their annual sales and last year was the worst in six years. Since sales could hardly get worse, it apparently felt safe to say that PC shipments will grow in the final three months of this year.

The prediction was short on actual numbers, as apparently these did not present themselves to Gartner's crystal ball gazers clearly enough.

Ironically the numbers became clearer when Gartner gazed further into the future. It foresees that PC shipments will rise about 10 percent from this year. Perhaps it is hoping that since that is so far into the future we will forget all about its prediction by the time we get there.

To be fair to Gartner, it is not the only one to have predicted that the run up to Christmas will be the end of the recession as far as the IT market is concerned. Someone else who has lately predicted some recovery in the economy by Christmas is UK chancellor Alistair Darling. µ

No Darling...

I'm afraid I'll to wait at least another 18 months...

They are illusions.
They are not the solutions they promised to be.

All through my wild days.
My mad existence.
At sixes and sevens with you.

Running around, trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all_
I never expected it to.

Except Buenos aEros

USB 3.0 will drive PC sales at Xmas

USB 3.0 support will be the key feature that drives computer sales this Xmas. It will enable users to transfer data like movies, pictures, and music 10 times faster than USB 2.0. Backups with USB based external hard drives will also be able to take advantage of this increase in speed.
