Ubuntu shuts down Satan

Trademark law can even close down the anti-Christ
Friday, 19 June 2009, 15:09

WHILE most of us think that the Devil invented trademark law, it seems that the folks at Ubuntu have decided to shut down old Nick for breaching their infernal trademark with some teeshirts.

A couple of Ubuntu fans have been running a cafepress store which sold t-shirts and stickers with the logo Ubuntu Satanic.

They didn't make any cash on it and the stuff was as cheap as chips. According to their website they have had to shut down Ubuntu Satanic after a nasty letter from the blokes at Canonical.

According to a statement on the site,  Canonical is enforcing its intellectual property rights over the Ubuntu name. The store is now closed and you will no longer be able to buy any merchandise.

"This saddens us. We are big fans of Ubuntu and have a lot of respect for Canonical. However, they need to understand that a phenomenon such as Ubuntu is only as strong as its community and alienating that community over the sale of a couple of lousy t-shirts is not the way to go," the site moans.

There are a few comments under the announcement which indicate that some users feel that Canonical, with its image of free and easy software, should enforce such trademark things in the same way that Torvald Linus looks after the Linux trademark.

Most of the comments however are from people who have rushed to defend Canonical for defending its trademark.

Satan was not available for comment as we ran out of virgin's blood before he picked up the phone.µ

Does it work both ways?

So they have shut down one based on Christian belief, should they not do the same for the Christian Ubuntu based on Buddha, Muslim etc etc.

I am not sure...

...what to think about it. I think Canonical wants to keep a good image but why not do the same for the Christian and Islamic editions? Because they are the good guys and the Satanic edition is just 'Evil' ? It doesnt not sound fair to me.

MC please dont hurt them.

Because Ubuntu ME (Muslim Edition) and Ubuntu CE (Chritian edition ) do not sel merchandise.

Also take a look to the Ubuntu SE, Most of the material is 18+.

good job canonical

I agree with Orlsend and satanic doesnt mean they affiliate with christian belief. Its a belief system which is EVIL whether it is in Christian, Judaism or Islaam. Its EVIL. As simple as that

The internet

Well, without it we would not know about The Ubuntu Satanic. The bigger the organisation the more pricks there are within it. This sounds like a lawyer having made a decision without understanding, well, the internet. Fooool.

What would be next?

I am surprised by some comments on this article... So imagine they didn't shut down the SE edition, what would be next? Ubuntu Nazi Edition? Ubuntu 9/11-Terrorists-fan edition? Ubuntu Deep Throat Edition? Come and buy our T-shirts!
Give me a break. You know that by ethics and moral, those kind of stuff shouldn't go public that way, despite the fact that legally is not a crime.

Nick Farrell is Satan!

From the fear, chaos, destruction, and general mayhem you cause Nick; some of us are beginning to assume you are Olde' Nick.

You still might be!

Perhaps we should have someone from the Vatican interview you and have them throw Holy Water on your notebook computer to see if it bursts into flames? If it does we'll know you're working unholy designs with your late Dell!

It's all about trademarks

This has little to do with ethics or moral, and everything to do with Canonical trademark policy which explicitly forbids commercial use without a trademark license.

Clearly an Evil god

In the Torah, New Testament & Qur'an their god kills more people than their devil. Their god also orders worshipers to commit genocide "even the women and children" of unbelievers AND even demands they be willing to sacrifice their own children to him in cold blood.

It's clearly an evil god described in the Torah, New Testament & Qur'an. Don't let their dangerous cultists tell you otherwise.

hmmm

They should just change the name. Take out "Ubuntu" and call it something like "Evil OS". Then sell a million tshirts. Problem solved.

The issue has beed resolved

Canonical explicitly licensed Ubuntu SE as "parody".

See: http://www.stefanoforenza.com/ubuntu-satanic-store-issue-cleared-up/

Shouldn't be a religious issue

Has anyone actually seen the satanic edition? It's more like the "80's heavy metal" version of satanism than the actual thing. There are some different wallpapers & sound effects - it should be on Gnome-look.org, not an entire forked distribution.
