Hacker ring shut down

Inspector Knacker of the Yard swoops
Tue Jun 16 2009, 11:17

INSPECTOR KNACKER of the Roman Yard has fingered the collars of an international ring of hackers.

Inspector Paolo of Rome and Inspector Dwight of New Jersey joined forces to rout the villians who were hacking into long-distance phone lines and may even have provided funds to terrorists in Southeast Asia.

Coppers raided houses in Italy to nick five Pakistanis linked to a hacking operation in the Philippines. Meanwhile the boys in blue from New Jersey charged three people living in the Philippines in connection with the case.

The ring is believed to have broken into the systems of international telecommunications companies and sold the stolen access codes in several countries in a multi-million dollar fraud.

It is estimated that the gang half-inched $55 million worth of calls by routing conversations from call centres onto hacked networks.

Coppers have also shut down ten call centres across Italy that used the hackers' illegitimate call  services.

Two of the Pakistanis, a husband and wife, were arrested in Brescia, while three more were found in the central town of Macerata, Italy.

Inspector Knacker has also issued a sixth warrant for a Filipino national who he thinks will help the Italian plod with its inquiries.

The six have been charged with fraud for illegally accessing and selling the phone access codes to the call centres and stores, which are widely used by immigrants in Italy to phone home.

What is worrying the coppers is that some of the proceeds of the sale might have been funnelled to Muslem extremist groups in the Philippines, including the al-Qaida linked Abu Sayyaf. The fear is that Abu Sayyaf may not have wanted the funds to go into its Christmas Club fund at Safeways, or even to place down on a dead certain win  at Kennington racecourse. µ

John,

A typical error that people make when talking about terrorism and terrorist is that they look at it form non-US Defence Department’s point of view.

So try this, read any article on terrorism and apply this logic: “if they don’t profit US magnates that sponsor US Defence Department policy then they are against US and are terrorists.”

Hope this clear things up for you.

So exciting!

It's so exciting that looks like rush hour 4! The fastest mouth of New Jersey and the fastest hands of Rome join forces to take down a group of international cyber terrorists in exotic locations.

Comming soon

typical

How do we know they are terrorists? Easy, somebody said they might be terrorists so ipso facto they must be terrorists.

I'm fortunate I live in a western nation. We only have to worry about Muslim extremists and terrorists. The poor Muslim nations have to worry about Christian extremists and terrorist national armies which do a hell of a lot more damage than suicide bombers and IED's.

Send them to dark horse.

Send them to Dark Horse in Lybia until they can pay up the 55-million. Great thing about that is they don't feed you there, your family has to arrange food.

pakistanis are out for themselves

Typical western stereotyping - if they're muslim (by name) - they must be funding al-qaeda. - Numpties like yourself don't even know what al-qaeda (the words themselves) mean!.

Its as simple as - If its a pakistani ring - they're out for profit for themselves and no other.....

Lo and behold....

Don't really comment on things related to politics but this is yet another example of how Pakistanis are into terrorism. I wonder if President Obama will try and rid that country of terrorism after he gets what he wants from them i.e. taliban dead.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
