Google not worried by anti-trust investigations

It comes with being the biggest
Thursday, 11 June 2009, 12:25

SEARCH GIANT Google said that it is not worried about three separate US government inquiries into whether it is a monopoly and is doing evil.

Dana Wagner, Google's competition counsel, told the AP that there is no reason to be upset or surprised by the investigations as such scrutiny comes with being a market leader.

Wagner said that the government would not be doing its job if it didn't look at outfits like Google. He should know, he worked at the US Justice Department for seven years before joining Google in 2007.

However that does not stop him from being a mite paranoid. He said that the push to investigate Google is being propelled by "enemies" that the company has made with its search engine business.

Wagner said that some of Google's free or low-cost products siphon money away from other businesses in media and technology who might have a grudge and friends in Washington. We guess he means the Vole. µ

Monopolies are legal

It's using your monopolized position for gain that's illegal. And I don't think Google has done that... yet.

No teeth

The us antitrust bodies are a joke. They failed to do anything about the Microsoft monopoly and they will fail to do anything about a Google monopoly.

The EU showed much more integrity when dealing with the Microsoft monopoly, yet even they failed to make a significant impact. Just accept that megacorporations outgrew any regulation.

Well.. DUH...

Anti-trust my butt...

Google got where it is by giving their users/clients what they want. And guess what? They are now big enough to offer their services at a lower cost than wanna-be competitors. That's the business world for you. Nothing wrong about it unlike what MS does with their monopoly. Google doesn't try to stifle the competition using strong arm tactics, They are just able to make profit while charging less.

Anti-Trust? MS basically threw money/services/discounts at LOTS of other companies to get them to adopt an "MS-only" mentality. And seem to have gotten away with it.
