THIS, SADLY, IS THE LAST ARTICLE I'LL WRITE FOR THE INQ. I wrote my first way back in June 2001, when, spookily enough, I was sitting in another plaice. Plus ca change.
I've been here long enough this time around to have a great number of people to thank. Readers, sauces, writers, friends. You know who you are. Special thanks to Mike for giving us this baby in the first place.
As you're well aware, the Interweb never sleeps. As true a maxim as the one that says all stories come true eventually, or you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Or, people in locked Castles should get out more.
For many years, this was the best job in the world. But such is the state of things I shall be pleased to go. Some innovate, some accumulate, some decimate, such is the way of our industry.
So, fare thee well. For those who would like to know what I'll be up to next, I've joined the Twittering classes. Though I'm not sure I've mastered the medium yet. µ

The Definition of "Plaice" - A mild flavored flatfish distinguishable by its orange spots. Prepared and cooked as Sole.

Many thanks for your work over the years. May yur fyoutur B brite.
Teh kave [mostly] salubriates you.

you fail at the INQ.
"Another Plaice" is a pun refering to the Rogister.
And good luck to you, Paul, I hope that wherever you go fortune smiles upon you. Godspeed.

We'll certainly miss you and your articles, Paul. Now I have less good things to my everyday reading.
My best wishes to your new endeavour, changing is living.
That means we'll have fewer typos and horrible posts, correct?
"But such is the state of things I shall be pleased to go"
Whatever does that mean?
@boredatwork
Why don't you leave your species of nastiness at home? Do the wickle typos hurt diddums's eyes. Some people are just so nasty, I dunno.
just me or is this site in decline...
Break a leg mr. Hales.
a site die as this one obviously is.
It's a sad day...and Charlie also left INQ (he said in his twitter)
makes me double sad :(
Ok, so we all know this site is going downhill, and nobody blames Paul for leaving. Thank you for all the good years sir.
On another note, is this site just Sylvie and Nick at this point?
And is Sylvie going to throw in the TOWEL???
Looks like that it's olny Nick and Sylvie...Charlie D is posting a lot of articles in his new site (http://www.semiaccurate.com/)
Why are there are so many people leaving INQ? Seems fishy...
Anyway, wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
Hmmmm, yea, that's just how I want to keep up with current tech... tune in to semiaccurate.com and get a bunch of AMD bias.
yer lame, charlie.... good riddance, you suck up.
bias is cool when its done with good humor and hard facts. straight bashing gets old and keeps the truth from spreading and good parts from getting in people's hands.
I think we saw this coming a little.
Mike held ship, the tides changed with the business buyout and it seems to have had a negative effect on the dedicated focus the staff have had perhaps.
The site seems to put out work more now on a more per article basis rather than a for the love of it basis.
Yes Charlie has strived to drive a message, and i've criticised this amazing man i've shared a pepsi in Soho with (yes he drinks soft drinks), but he's looking out for himself and he will prosper as Paul will by doing as I say - looking after themselves.
I too have had harder times recently and had to endure a wind up of one firm before joining a startup with immense potential. Whether Paul or Charlie are joining the established or new, they will be bringing a wealth of talent to wherever they end.
Godspeed Paul!
if there were such a thing on the interwibble.
He ranks higher than most heads of state in my book... so make that 42!
What's happening here? Anybody got the scoop?
Cheers for all your work over the years here, best of luck, though I doubt you will need it.
Tis indeed a sad day for us readers.
No wonder we haven't seen an article from Charlie for a few weeks now. The INQ has definitely been in decline for a little while now, I wish someone would spill the beans though. Charle where are you off to now, please let us know and good luck to both you and Paul. I guess I will be deleting my INQ bookmark now. Adios everybody.
Well, as Nvidia cant advance in grapcs, they focus on other things : like wiping out their enemies. An theINQ was their enemy. So they did they job and thINQ is now sinking ship.Even capiten is leaving.
I check more often fudzilla for tech news as theINQ lost their dents .
Anyway, wish all good folks at theINQ good luck. Was nice all this years.thanks
Well this sucks. Now how am I going to get all the good gossip?
When Mike Magee left I hoped this wouldn't happen in 12 to 24 months. So long Inq.
As a regular here this is dissappointing.
Your going ... Charlie has left ... Mike left ... Fuad A left ... as did the other guy I can't rmember who went to DailyT (Charlie's accomplis in the dual 230K3D 2900XTX missing box hoax)
Slybian remains ... guess I will stay a bit longer ... providished she still sharpens her horns.
Semiaccurate has no comments section Charlie ... so no point in me coming over till that is fixed.
The best thing about this place is the quality of the comments ... I recognise some of these people from other walks in life.
Its sad to see the editor go but i wish him good luck and i will continue to read the Inquirer because any news outside of the U.S news media is a blessing.
especially poignant today.
We're as good as our word. Goodby
The INQ: Always giving more than you really wanted
The INQUIRER: We're cheap, but we're cheerful
and, my favorite
Rid your mind of Kent - Mike Magee
Under your editorship, this site has become one of the most visited by me. Thank you and best wishes with your next adventure.
You know it makes sense.
I'll be sorry to see you go, both for your writing and for your editing. Not much for Twitter, but might just be considering it now.
I'm sure that whoever is fortunate enough to acquire your services Paul, will benefit from a healthy boost in readership. Sad to see you go Mate, but eager to follow you to your next mag.
Regards from 'Ol Taipei.
Where do I apply? ;o)

i have always loved your english. we will miss u paul. take care!
of the caption competitions then?

you caused the downfall of this site with your total lack of control over the staff here. Charlie damaged the inquirer with his rants over a year.
You should have been fired long ago for doing nothing
Your english, humour, sarcasm, and updates on technology will be missed.
Best Wishes
I didn't knew everybody has jumped from the ship... Too bad, I guess this is the last time I'll access the Inq.

sound like made-up names to me
Any bets on how long it will take Drashek to tip up in the SemiAccurate forums?
A pint to the winner?
and thanks for all the news.
I wish the best of future luck to Paul, and indeed to all the old INQ regulars.
Sad to see the Inq in such decline. To be honest it's been off my bookmarks for some months now.
