Taiwan to loosen chip restrictions

China might get 12-inch fabs
Mon Jun 08 2009, 10:36

TAIWAN IS THINKING about relaxing its restrictions on Taiwanese semiconductor investment in China.

Taiwanese president Ma Ying-jeou told the AP that the island was "not excluding the possibility" of allowing companies to set up 12-inch wafer fab plants in mainland China.

Heretofore Taiwan has allowed its chip companies to invest only in eight-inch semiconductor fabs on the mainland because of fears that its communist rivals across the straits might have done terrible things if they'd gotten their paws on more advanced technology. µ

Ha.

He probably meant 300 MM, but 12 inches isn't quite 300 MM. Sorry buddy, but you'll be encountering people using English units for the rest of your life. We who prefer English units are quite happy that way.

RE This site sucks

"Luddites" are English Lit majors who roam tech sites looking for spelling & grammer errors to whine about.

Really, is that the best you can come up with ? Boring.
