Apple to build big in North Carolina

Mega data centre deal
Thursday, 4 June 2009, 12:34

FRUIT-THEMED toymaker Apple has confirmed that it is going to build a huge data centre in North Carolina.

According to CNET, North Carolina Governor Perdue signed a bill that will hand Jobs' Mob a state tax credit worth $46 million if it moves into the region.

The Apple server farm will have about 50 full-time employees who will be paid slightly more than the prevailing wage. Wages in North Carolina are somewhat below the national average, so the Apple employees won't exactly be rolling in it. µ

That almost $1mil in tax credits per full-time employee. Does this even make sense?

How is NC going to benefit from this tax break?
