Remember, son, many a good story has been ruined by over verification - James Gordon Bennett
IBM HAS HUNG ON to its lead as the top peddler of servers, according to the pinstriped bean counters at Gartner.
The Boston market research outfit said IBM remained the top server vendor in 1Q09, holding 30.7 per cent market share by revenue. Other vendors ship more servers but IBM's are more expensive.
IBM has been in the top slot for about a year and seems to be taking ground in what is left of the Unix market. It managed a two percent growth rate. µ
Getting on for 20 years now since the pundits claimed that IBM was on the way to the dustbin of history, as its obsolescent mainframes were inevitably going to be replaced by vastly more cost-effective Unix servers. Today:
1. IBM's mainframe business has never been healthier.
2. IBM leads the Unix server business.
Bear this in mind next time you listen to a pundit venting his/her opinions (60% probability).
