Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy - Benjamin Franklin
ORACLE CEO Larry Ellison has said that the "new Oracle" will continue to invest in Java and will consider building Java-powered netbooks and phones.
According to Eweek, Ellison promised to invest heavily in further development of Sun's Java franchise.
He made the promise in a speech at the Java One conference in San Francisco, and added that the new Oracle may get into the Java-powered netbook and smartphone manufacturing businesses.
Oracle has invested more than anybody else in Java technology in terms of dollars over the years, Ellison claimed, somehow overlooking Sun's invention, early development and initial evangelism of Java. The combined Oracle Sun company will shell out more cash in the future, Ellison promised the Java crowd.
Oracle's engineers have contributed a great deal to the Java franchise over the years and added things like real-time business activity monitoring and business intelligence, he said.
He also let slip that Oracle plans to start making Java-powered netbooks and smartphones to compete with Hewlett-Packard, Acer, Lenovo and Dell.
Ellison said that he didn't see why devices like those based on Java technology shouldn't come from Sun. µ
I thought Larry's enthusiasm about a JavaFX version of Open Office was intriguing. Are we going to get an Office Suite that will run across desktops, laptops, PDAs, and phones? Could be interesting.
I think he's referring or hinting on Android based phones, why make other java-based phones instead of uniting their efforts with Google and standardizing android's sdk !!!
I believe it's for everyone's good.
Yea,
The only problem with your theory is that Android is a LINUX platform. It isn't a Java OS. A Java based BROWSER would work very well on an ANDROID platform Smartphone. I find that Opera Mini is a better browser on my Smartphone than Explorer. Make a Java based Browser that works better on an Android platform phone and you've got a point.
