AMD RECKONS its new ATI Radeon E4690 GPU trebles the 3D performance of any of its embedded graphics chippery to date.

This product will enable digital signage manufacturers to decode and play multiple high-definition videos in hardware, offloading all the decoding from the CPU. Casino system manufacturers will be amazed by triple the graphics performance to help attract players while increasing overall entertainment value with incredibly realistic 3D graphics, plus two-monitor support.

The chip supports DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL 3.0 and is supposed to be simple for makers of arcade machines and the like to implement.

"The ATI Radeon E4690 sets a new bar for embedded graphics performance. Blazingly fast graphics and HD video capabilities enhance the appeal of applications such as arcade, casino, digital signage and more," drizzled Richard Jaenicke, director of embedded graphics at AMD.

The company has more such hype here. µ

thoughts on performance

Any thoughts on it's performance relative to desktop parts? The name seems like it should be faster than a desktop 4670? This part looks like it has 320 shaders @ 600 Mhz and 128bit GDDR3 at 700Mhz (1400Mhz?)

Seems like it's name should have been more like an E4650?

Will it work with my processor?

I wonder if the e4960 will work with my e3600

Cool

Embedded in a low power computer with an ARM processor? One that needs no fan? Where can I place my order?

But can it play games?

I would love to see an embedded chip that offers decent frames as an entry level starting point for a cpu/gpu, But, I don't think it's quite there yet.

Proof is in the pudding and this one is still just a box of mix on the shelf.

re: But can it play games?

looking at the specs it is similar to 3850, so i dont see why it would have any problems

DeskTops Blow Out Embedded Graphics....

Once was day when embeddded graphics was cheap way to skip cheap card, so it worked & 3D lived. Then came You Canplay TWO.

Yet with native vga port NOT Conected or at wide disparity, it was litle time power gamer cooked little ones embedded world & all that extra monies & restricitons, worthless.

For more than main costs, you could continue, because vga native blew its mind anyway, at least on desktop. why simple vga never wears out & imbedded almost always do. Weap, Boo Hoo. MaMA We Need New Everything. Scams & Circus clowns Abound.....

Not for PC, you DOPES!

Did anyone read the article? It's for embedded markets, not PCs! AMD will no doubt introduce something similar to replace the HD3200/3300 sometime in the near future. BTW, the stated power draw for the module, memory and all, is 25W. A little much for an ARM device, don't you think?
