Twenty CPU+GPU combos put to the test

Daily Weeble Core i7 plays well with others

CRYSIS WARHEAD, Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3 are three extremely popular and graphics-demanding games that PC Games Hardware used to test 20 different CPU+GPU combos. Funny how Crysis Warhead plays almost as badly on an Athlon X2 5000+ as it does on a Core i7 940…

Asus’ Gene motherboard is now facing some stiff competition from DFI’s LANParty X58 micro-ATX offering. Tom’s Hardware sees how they measure up to each other.

Thrusted Reviews is testing the X-Slim X340-043UK MSI notebook. The plasticky portable suffers from some drawbacks – an underpowered Celeron matched with too high a price tag. Acer has better, thinks Andy.

Neoseeker checks out Sapphire’s new HD 4890 Atomic, a 1GHz vapour chamber-cooled bad boy which affords some serious performance for a price that isn’t crazy. Still, there are lots of alternatives that may be equally tempting, says Kevin.

Thrusted Reviews has that so-called “budget” X58 mobo from Foxconn, the Flaming Blade. £176 will get you one, but that’s pretty much what it has going for it…

Hardware RAID is always a delight for benchmarking. Xbit Labs explores the Adaptec RAID ASR-5805 SAS controller which – truth be said – is a lot more powerful than most netbooks or nettops out there… phroarrr

Tweak Town tests the Asus M4A79T Deluxe motherboard, the company’s top AMD mobo. From personal experience they’re hard to find in Europe (you naughty Asus you), but in the States you can get them for under $200.

Another Asus mobo, this time the Rampage II GENE, is another reviewer favourite. The board stuffs all the X58 circuitry in a micro-ATX form factor and doesn’t compromise on anything.

iXBT Labs is analysing memory timings and speeds on the QX9770, the previous king of the hill. Memory impact is fairly measurable, but then again, using top rated memory over the slowest of the DDR3 kit will get you 5%-6% performance gains.

Hardware Canucks is testing the Mushkin Redline Ascent 3x2GB PC3-12800 CL6 kit. With pricing coming down and performance going up, you can pay $216 for a CL6-rated kit.

IT Reviews in the UK tested the Logitech G35 Surround Sound Headset. It’s 7.1 sound done in software, though, but something you’ll want to pick up for your teamspeak.

Laptop Mag takes a look at the Sony VAIO SR-series lap-cosy. Packs a punch, for a business-minded laptop, is light, long battery life and its biggest disappointment is the webcam…

Benchmark Reviews got Patriot’s new flagship SSD, the Torqx, in its 128GB incarnation. Both read and write speeds top 200MBps which is – to say the least – impressive. Pricier, though. µ

RE: TV High Noon in 13 Days .....

ah, not PC-generated gobblygook, not a monkey randomly banging on a keyboard, but a monkey who can cut & paste.

Brilliant.

TV High Noon in 13 Days ?workaround, SAS,SSD....

fashion. Synthetic benchmark tools such as HD Tach and ATTO Disk Benchmark are helpful indicators, but should not beSAS item isn't netbook nor notebook, its something called "Server". why you'd want to spend $600 for Slow system, is your ....bliped. Try SCSI.

On SSD :Disclaimer: SSD Benchmarks
Benchmark Reviews recently published an article which details Solid State Drive (SSD) Benchmark Performance Testing. The research and discussion that went into producing that article changed the way we now test SSD products. Our previous perceptions of this technology were lost on one particular difference: the wear leveling algorithm that makes data a moving target. Without conclusive linear bandwidth testing or some other method of total-capacity testing, our previous performance results were rough estimates at best.

It's critically important to understand that no software for the Microsoft Windows platform can accurately measure SSD performance in a comparable considered the ultimate determining factor. That factor should be measured in actual user experience of real-world applications(Terrible). Benchmark Reviews includes both bandwidth benchmarks and application speed tests to present a conclusive measurement of product performance

Critically important that Not Much, except average price is under$3 Gb. Heat, stil up to 31C or twice as hot as HDD. Same ole 200Mb/s, forgot to include random Read/Write tests altgether (Whole Mechanism has to slow to those critical points Ability), yet stuttering has stopped Up & Down is not so drasticly wide, Eg Old 200 to 100 to 200, Now:its much tighter 200-180-200 mb/s within normal range. YET, UNTIL SATA REV. 3 SSD IS PUBLIC YOU BEE FOOL TO BUY ANY SSD, Even Then With Most Extreme Caution.Much Work To Do In ALL Units Tested, variation is NOT mafg specificlly, Huge Variation between models(Newer=?Better).None Are Acceptable That Have Been Tested So Far.. except that Untested one announced in commentos few days back, yet it'll costa. Hey, IBM sells this junk ,too. Except IBM uses twice Rated memory size to "WEAR IN" unit more evenly, throwing worn areas to back burner & moving thru into new sectors as needed. clever idea to avoid excessive wear problem..SSD, Sometime Soon, Just not now.

Lastly, Television NTSC, Is Going OFF air in 13 days, AT HIGH NOON. Whats Bugger To Do. Heres Ultee' thought:

Use You UHF tuner if your set has rotary tuning & then FINE Tune Signal to New Transmissions(its from ?satelite or Cell Grid now).UHF Fine tune in Rotry IS LESS than normal quality expectation , yet you DO GET Image & Audio, Funny Its Mostly Satelite Stuff(ATSC prevents your Viewing those Unless You've PAID), Channels, like comedy central, history, etc. Well, give Your Older TV Chance To Shine Again, While New reviews of, BARF, new high Refresh HZ screens come in, or better, QUIT. too bad, if its Not left Nut, its right Nut,too.

Killing Artemus for Gratis.

Or Go: BLACK Pan Ther.on. Take Long Walk, Buy Bicycle or Simply PrePare For Same Ole Nu World of Plunderings. Imaginary Stuff Dosn't count, Thats why torture reveals true stuff, then safely stolen via Legitimate C.I.A. American Felony technique.

Gib Me Back Your Everything....Unworthly Scums.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
