AMAZON EXECUTIVE Jeff Bezos has been telling shareholders how the Kindle is the best thing since sliced bread.
According to the Seattle Times, speaking to a shareholder meeting Bezos hardly bothered talking about the economy but instead peddled the Kindle.
He sheepishly admitted the gear was not making money yet, but said the operation was in "investment mode" because it took three years to develop. Remember this excuse when the bank rings about about your overdraft, you are not losing money, you are in investment mode.
More than 285,000 titles are now available on the Kindle, and both Kindle and traditional paper versions are available. µ
No profit on the Kindle yet? How about selling it outside the USA? The economic downturn ain't so bad in some other countries...
While I like the convenience of my Kindle, some greedy book publishers can't figure out USD 9.99 is more than enough to charge for a book download.
Kindle sales don't cannibalize hardcopy book sales, so how about you publishers getting a clue?
With most if not all books offered for USD 10 or less, Kindle would become really popular.
Until then, consider spreading the word about boycotting overpriced Kindle book downloads.
And yes, why no Kindle outside the US - insurmountable wireless problems?
I think not.
That match would be as pinky and perky as Matt Smith and Karen Gillan (a Scottish red-headed Lanarkshire Labour MSP?).
The Guardian has said it, so we know it to be true. (Wilf?)
Who looks at his sonic screwdriver and thinks,
'Ooh, this could be a little more lipstick'?
The reason they haven't started selling it outside the US is because, last I heard, they were managing to sell them before they even came off the assembly line. There's no point in looking for new markets if you can't satisfy the demand of the market you have.
I apologize if they've started making them before they're sold, my info is at least a month old. :)
Myself, I'm waiting for a color one for under $500. I've seen one that's supposed to double as a coloring book(Wired magazine, I think), but that one was $1000.
Books can be cheap on Amazon. EveryWhereJenni Has book in E.G. webDiary, its for college enrollees. So looked it up on amazon, its .01 cent book, plus 3.99. Post Office delivers printed matter for less than .50 cents pound, so 4 year old book, maybe shopworn, still recoups bit of less loss for seller. Probably bought by ton from printer as scrap. where book might cost as little as nickel in paperback. So Download, well ifie. Printing isn't cheap, data Is cheap & thats point. much more distribution on .fiffie, than ten bucks, really.
