BIGGISH BLUE, which provides a lot of services for SMBs, is suing to prevent one of its managers from signing up to work for hardware maker Dell.

According to Cnet, IBM's former head of mergers and acquisitions, David Johnson, was cleaning out his desk and heading to Dell when the writ arrived.  It said if he stuck the pictures of his family on his new desk in Dell it would be a violation of his contract.

Big Blue claims it gave Johnson "significant compensation" by agreeing not to work for competitors.  They think he has all sorts of secrets which come from his days with the outfit.

Dell has confirmed that it has offered Johnson a job but will not say what. µ

Many contracts have that clause standard and the compensation they are referring to was his salary.

Thank god that I live in a state where that part of the contract is not worth the paper its written on. Imagine having to change industries every time you wanted to leave a company..

Sneaky?

How daft are you? He didn't have to take the compensation to not work at a competitor. If you accept an agreement and are financially compensated for it, then you can have no compliants.

Stupid is more like it, on his part.

Looks like Dell is trying to use one of Microsoft's play book tricks.
