HTC to release Android phone in China

Ophone not Iphone
Tuesday, 26 May 2009, 12:21

HTC IS SET to release its Android Ophone in China.

The news is the latest revelation of HTC doings including a new HTC Android device called the Lancaster that's supposedly targeted for the US in August.

The Ophone is a version of HTC's Magic which was a successor to the T-Mobile G1.

The new phones will be customised by China Mobile. The name is not a rip off of Apple's Iphone, but rather a reference to the Open Mobile System installed on the beasts, HTC claims.

China is the biggest market for smartphones but even with the best will in the world the Ophone is still going to be pricy for the great unwashed. According to Cnet, The Wall Street Journal thinks it will cost about $730. µ
