Nibble Aluminium substrates not required
Thursday, 21 May 2009, 13:22

HARD DRIVE MAKER Western Digital has flogged a Malaysian factory which makes aluminium substrates to the company whose name sounds like a sneeze, Hitachi.

According to the AP, Western Digital bought the plant in 2007 when it acquired Komag. It did not really need it and the sale is part of the company's cost-cutting measures. µ

Surprising

This is rather surprising to me. My company has worked with IBM/Hitachi for many years and I have never seen them use aluminum substrates for any products.
