ATI Catalyst 9.5 drivers released

Officially
Wednesday, 20 May 2009, 10:26

AFTER ALREADY having spent a few days floating around the web, AMD has decided to make it official and announce that its new ATI Catalyst 9.5 drivers are, indeed, out.

Reading through the release notes, there doesn't seem to be much new at all, except for Catalyst 9.5 finally delivering 64-bit support for ATI Avivo under Windows Vista.

For Linux users, ATI Catalyst 9.5 offers nothing new, but the firm promises to have "a host of fixes" in next month's update.

AMD is also saying gamers should notice a 10 per cent performance boost on games like Company of Heroes and BattleForge. µ

Driver version

The official driver version is 8.612. There are builds of 'Catalyst 9.5' floating around that is actually 8.610.1. I don't know if the official driver is just a number change or there are a few minor adjustments over the early Catalyst 9.5 leaks.

omg new driver

ATI is so slow and worthless when it comes to drivers, so slow that its boring new-old driver arrives at the INQ news ffs.

You're wrong about ATI driver updates and we appreciate these notifications from the Inq. New drivers, only of use if you want AVIVO on Visat64. Thanks Sylvie.

9.4 = 7, yet flawed

9.5 dosn't list 7, because 7 dosn't like ati catlyst manager at all. 9.4 was special update for 7. drivers work, yet consule manager for ati, well its only problem is when installing new 7 partition upgrade starting from ati partition with consule manager in it. Maybe TASK mgr, that thing that comes up from alt-ctr-delet when frozen to turn off temp tasks, will turn off start up programs (P.2&3), indeed,Can turn off google updater from starting up, yet TM ?never will control core useage. ati needs to force ALL cores into operation. Who really cares about game of monumental por[portions, most simply want good internet & system useage. ALL Core Chior....

@Dr Fred

keep the troll food to yourself.

there's fu*k load of drivers floating around. whats the point in dedicating news for just ATI's driver? nothing special or "big-bang" about it, except performance is down the toilet:

http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/2764/ati_catalyst_9_5_vista_driver_analysis/index.html

I'll tell you why INQ updates you on ATI driver - their customers are desperate for new driver to fix their crap like VPU recovery, blinking textures, broken CF and bloated CCC.
the biased INQ really cares for you, ATI fans, thus keeping you updated.

p.s, have you heard about ATI crippling furmark stress tool (since 8.8) via catalyst AI for hd4xxx series, so your VRM won't get toasted ? well, you better hope games never use 100% gpu as you might end up with some more evil "optimizations"

bye bye

No-one likes a troll.

The Inq also reports when Nvidia releases a new driver set or if major programs have updates. This is what news reporters do: they report news. A driver update for a product falls into the category of tech news and is perfectly valid.

So before you go mouthing off your own biased view (no problems here with downclocking with an HD 4870 1GiB), maybe actually get out of your cave and put down the big club. If you do that, we might actually give a damn about what you're writing.

9.5 drivers fixed my issues

I am now able to play blu-ray movies again and company of heroes is working fine now. Everything is good.

"no problems here with downclocking with an HD 4870 1GiB"

if you are referring to FurMark crippling, then its not about downclocking, but crippling via "optimization":

http://en.expreview.com/2008/08/26/ati-officially-optimize-catalyst-for-furmark-making-it-run-slower.html

geeks3d states this issue remain in 9.5:
http://www.geeks3d.com/?p=4051

if the INQ would have updated on nvidia drivers, there were no room left for other news.

anyway, I don't give a damn if you give a damn about my writings. I also don't give a damn about yours.

@pplejack

applejack, shut the fuck up. Ati driver updates are very important for a lot of people - so post a notice about them is important for a tech-news site.
Does anybody force you to read this notice? No, so why do you do it and complain afterwards? Did you have to pay for it? No? Then shut up, troll

That said, 9.5 fixed an annoying bug for me (kde4+composite+xv= lockup was solved). I am very happy with this release so far.

no, I will not shut up ! hahaha
did I hit a sensitive spot? good...

I will rant and bash ATI/INQ as much as I like in comments, just like charlie (&friends) can rant and bash nvidia in his pathetic articles (&comments)

you can call me troll for stating facts, it just amuses me more... :D

ati 4850

Look at this. Seems the new driver is worse for 4850 owners.

@applefag

there is a difference of reporting (like CD does) about Nvidia screwing costumers and people like you acting like assholes.

You don't see the difference? Well - I seriously did not expect you be able to.

noobs

since when CD is "reporting"? lol, all he does is making up shit and rant like a baby about irrelevant stuff. the only thing I care about is the customer experience, which is very lacking with ATI POS drivers and developer support.

you can call me names, it won't change anything for you poor bastards! forget your ego and get nvidia next time, as hardware is useless without descent software. its like riding a horse without a saddle - making your nuts hurt

Notebook Graphics Drivers

Radeon HD 3200, 3300 drivers for XP32, XP64 finally supported! Can be rid of the awful LoseDoze Vista at last. Choice - who would have thunk.

Linux video playback fixed

The Linux version at least does fix bugs, 9.4 completely hosed video playback at least with Ubuntu. It would have been nice if they hadn't broken it in the first place but I'll take it anyway.
