WORD HAS IT THAT Intel will be announcing its eight-core Nehalem-EX Xeon processor next week, on May 26th.
Able to carry out 16 threads simultaneously, Intel's octopus also boasts 2.3 billion transistors and integrated power gates to keep guzzlage down, making it a powerful weapon in Chipzilla's battle with RISC architecture.
Nehalem-EX will cater to servers with more than two sockets, an improvement on the firm's current model.
The eight-cored wonder also outstrips Intel's six-cored, Penryn "Dunnington", which up until now was the firm's highest-performing chip for multi-processor servers.
The chip will begin shipping in systems by late 2009, early 2010. µ

"RISC ArchitectureS There is more than one!"
Don't ever try to speak of "Gothic Architecture". You'd fail the grammar test and people would laugh at you.
That is called a paper launch, Sylvie.
Mmm. Nice! Now we need a new SkullTrail Mobo w/ socket 1366 for a 16 core power house! For SETI, etc ;) jeje
So what's the estimated TDP for this CPU? Just wondering...
Cheers
Shown myself as a moron with my spelling of morons... ;-)
If it is launched, which I very much doubt then every Tier 1 who has spoken on the subject has said Q1 2010....So Q4 09 may be possible but it would be a massive paper launch if they do release it.
They may paper launch to stop people buying 4P AMD boxes with Istanbul but it would just highlight their current Dunnington issues. Nehalem is eating Dunningtons lunch and Istanbul will mean only moron's will buy an obsolete Dunnington box if they need scalability.
There is more than one!
don't be a whyney bitch.
