THE NOW ACER BRAND Gateway recently spoke to the INQUIRER ahead of this week's UK Channel Expo show in Birmingham.
Back in February, Gateway relaunched in Europe as an Acer subsidiary targeting corporate customers. Philip Ashkar, Gateway's managing director for the UK and Ireland, said it would be qualifying 30 to 40 reseller partners throughout Europe. In the US however, Gateway PCs are still being sold to consumers in stores such as Best Buy.
Ashkar said Gateway will be announcing managed services in Europe today at Channel Expo, through a partnership with Level Platforms. Gateway has also invested in Intel's vPro technology for remotely managing desktop computers, providing the core of its corporate managed services offering, dubbed Managed Workplace 2009.
The partnership won't charge customers on a per machine basis, but instead on a per site basis, with different plans tailored for small, medium and large businesses.
The services Gateway and Level Platforms plan to offer will include remote monitoring, servicing, asset management and automatic patching of updates. µ

I can see it now, my boss says to order 20 desktops and get a price from a few suppliers. I try Gateway, who's website is as useless as Acer's, and I can't get a straight answer.
So I phone gateway looking for a price on 20 standard desktops, give him my spec, and he comes back at me with a load of tosh. Asking my how many sites, are we a small, medium or large business. Are we interested in remote managing, servicing, asset management, auto-atching of updates, etc etc.
I hang up and get a quote from Dell and somewhere else and buy from one of those.
I'm guessing it's not me they are aiming at ;-)
