Zotac IONITX-A-U mini-ITX mobo

Daily Wibble Powering the Atom
Thursday, 14 May 2009, 02:21

ZOTAC'S SUCCESSFUL mini-ITX campaign turns another page by adding Nvidia’s ION chippery and launching the IONITX-A-U motherboard. This means a system that, under load, consumes just 30W.

Anandtech also tested the IONITX-A-U DIY board from Zotac and you can clearly see the onboard chippery drags the ever so slow Atom into somewhat of a capable machine.

Razer’s Mamba Gaming mouse is becoming a fairly successful franchise, the latest version can be seen at Thrusted Reviews. Nice packaging… and yes… that’s £125. For a mouse.

HP has revamped its MediaSmart server line with an Atom-based MediaSmart LX195. Top marks for performance and apparently upgrading the kit won’t void your warranty.

Tom’s Hardware Store is comparing a couple of SLI GTX 275 against the reigning champ, the GTX 295. If you consider finding a GTX 295 is like finding a needle in a haystack, the price you pay and the performance on the GTX 275... it’s a no-brainer.

PC case newcomer, Azza, is having its Solano 1000 kit tested at OCIA. The mid-tower case proved exceptional in every aspect and if you can find one in a store, you’ll appreciate the very low price tag.

Laptop Magazine has enjoyed some hands-on time with the new Dell Mini 10v, a stripped-down version of the Dell Mini 10 that sells for $50 less. Less video features overall is what you get.

The Hardware Canucks have an ASUS Rampage II Gene LGA1366 mATX motherboard review on the site today. The micro-ATX board packs all the features of its full-sized brethren and then some.

Future Looks has a Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P AM3 on the bench. A good layout, great performance and overclocking headroom make this one stand out from the crowd.

Some serious power can be had by the Enermax Revolution 85+ 950w PSU, on review at Bit Tech. Highly recommended, if you can find one, and the price is somewhat extreme.

We spotted an Asus F70 laptop at Driver Heaven, a cheap multimedia notebook with a surprisingly good panel and build quality. Well-balanced and, again, top marks for the £750 lappie.

Bjorn 3D tests the M4N82 Deluxe SLI, built on the nForce 980a SLI. Tremendous overclocking potential and tri-SLI capability give it some unique abilities in the AMD world.

Finally, Motherboards.org has a slightly RAM-engorged GTX 260 from MSI, the N260GTX Lightning Black Edition video card. It also features push-button overclocking for added value and noobishness. µ

Stop the winge and smell the roses

Ia fully agree with Ibrihim's comment. What shortage are you talking about? Here in Blighty (you know, the country where you are based), you can get them practically everywhere. A quick search shows availability at all serious online dealers: OcUK (24+ from 3 different vendors), Novatech (6 from 2 differnet vendors), Scan and Yoyotech and Novatech all show several vendors in stock.

And what's the issue about a hefty price penalty?? Yes, if you are stupid you can be had and pay up to £500 for the 295. But my quick search shows the card available from £379. The cheapest Geforce 275 I could find in the UK today was for £189.99. You do the math!

Fully available, less hassle, less heat, overclocks like a charm, and no more expensive. At least in the UK, what's not to like??
