Dell bans ewaste export

We will not ship to China
Wed May 13 2009, 11:42

HARDWARE ASSEMBLER Dell has formally banned the export of broken computers, monitors and parts to developing countries.

Environmental groups have been worried that hardware manufacturers have been capitalising on lax enforcement of environmental and worker-safety regulations in developing nations to dump toxic waste.

According to the AP, Dell's announcement does not mark a significant change in the box shifter's behaviour, but environmental groups have welcomed the statement saying it encourages other firms to tow the line.

Dell had already required contractors to keep e-waste out of developing countries but heretofore had not published such a clear policy. µ

Dell seems to be doing a lot of things right these past few months.

The Rumor Feed - http://rumorfeed.blogspot.com/ also has a cool article on a Dell netbook that looks pretty darn good. The Laptitude 2100, which they claim is coming out in a week.

Since the site is rarely wrong, I tend to beleive them and the netbook sounds pretty darn cool!

Good for Dell!

Check out that site for E-waste information. We are one of the only companies in our area that meets BAN standards.

I work there.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
