Microsoft confirms Izune in June

A brick can be hot and slow
Tue May 12 2009, 23:44

IT LOOKS LIKE Microsoft is getting closer to launching the Zune phone we told you about earlier, here and here.

We have been saying for a while that the launch is quite imminent, production snafu's aside, and Microsoft just confirmed it.

In a Twitter post here, a spokesVole tried to start a viral campaign with the post, "June 2009 will be an important month for Zune lovers." That was followed by "@Gilly2468 @Chimerica @clubdirthill @serenecloud New product launch, that's all I'm allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre. :)". Yawn, pre-canned buzz generation attempt #419, the choice of the second rate amateur flack.

Early spy shots have the new Zune phone looking much better than originally hoped for, and it actually looks quite good for a Microsoft product. Hopefully these looks will carry over to the production parts. As they say, hold off from buying an Iphone or Pre.

The loss of sales from Zune fans would likely mean a devastating two less units sold from the competing products, but if Microsoft really had anything to offer, it would have shown that. We know about the Iphone and Pre, and they are good. We know about the Zune and how well Microsoft treats its partners and customers, so why would you want to stay on that train?

Hold off? Why, so you can be disappointed by the new Ibrick SP3, then go out and buy an Iphone or Pre? So you can feel the warm fuzzyness of owning a Izune, and by that I mean the heat of the Nvidia chipset burning your leg?

No, don't hold off, get a Pre or a G1 - crappy though it is - or if you really have to, buy an Iphone. There is absolutely no need to wait. µ

Update: It looks like the Twitter post was fake, but we stand by everything else in this story, from the prototypes to the spy shots. Our apologies for that.

@Shahab

I would normally smile when i read Charlie's articles and i'm not you're normal "Charlie hater" as he has posted to many gems in the past for me not to be be entertained.

But to base an article on a tweet, not even a day old, with no substantial backing with "reliable sources" as Charlie likes to say, is poor, just poor poor poor journalism and Charlie and The Inq. should know better to let something like this make the frontpage - it just makes The Inq tastless, reminds me of The Sun page 3...more of this and a long time reader won't be reading here any more...

Smartphone Marketshare Q4 2008

In response to Ironside, outside the US the smartphone market is NOT Blackberry dominated.

According to Gartner's 2008 Q4 sales figures the worldwide market belongs to Symbian.
Symbian 47.1
RIM 19.5
Win Mob 12.4
OSX 10.7
Linux 8.4
Palm 0.9
Other 1.1

(The figures are particularly amusing when you compare the press coverage of the iPhone with it's lowly position of 4th, behind even Windows Mobile devices)

I can't see a zune

Threatening any existing or future smart device. Blackerry has the market share while Apple has the flare in second place. Symbian (and Win Mobile) based Samsung, HTC and Nokia smart devices pretty much make up the rest. Leaving Google and Palm with whats left. MS has the means to through money at an existing market at the right time and at the right place to turn the odds in thier favor.

Just one problem this aint the time nor the place....

Why do you people keep reading his stories?

To me it is very funny to see all these people come and write comments about how Charlie suck, he is biased, none of his story's are true or make sense, and yet those comments appear again and again. You'd think that if all these commentators really had such strong feelings, they'd stop reading his stories, no? Weird.

Some data please

Give some actual info. You never give any info when you gripe endlessly about MS. Why!!! You could shit on MS and have some hard data too. That's not that hard, Charlie. Stop being MS lazy.

I wonder...

Does Charlie actually like anything? Or does he just walk about complaining about everything?

Maybe he doesn't get enough.

BTW, the pic did make me smile.

Charlie gets owned..

Reliable sources Charlie ? Was it worth typing all that up and now end up the fool you are? Grow up, stop the stupid rants and start writing proper articles again as you used to...else just..don't bother..

No Troubles With MS and Zune ever

I dont get why you're bashing MS support on zunes. My 1st gen zune is in perfect working order and i bought it on the day it came out. My friend also had a zune and it failed to boot once, they sent him a completely new one within 4 days, no trouble.

Charlie cut your fingers...

and get laid or at least walk outside your house...read http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2009/05/12/that-microsoft-zune-phone-tweet-fake/ , read again http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/05/12/what-will-apple-say-about-microsofts-mobile-multi-touch-plans/ and jump of your own ego to your own death. Or at least stop acting like the annoying kid that just because he screams harder, doesn't make him more loved...did actually someone love you when you were a kid? Hmmm not even your parents? Sad.

Foot meet 00 buckshot

Another fine example of why Microsoft is its own worst enemy. Perhaps some one should suggest they spend more money on R & D and engineering quality products, and less on Marketing pigs in lipstick.

Bring on the anti-Charlie flames Redmond Astro turf Crew!
