Anything from yesterday is probably too old ',INQUIRER School of Journalism" - 1 "791"
EMPLOYEES AT TROUBLED game maker 3D have released stills and footage of how far they got with the legendarily late Duke Nukum game.
The game was delayed more times than the second coming of Jesus and was one of the reasons why 3D appears to have gone to the wall.
According to Techspot some of the games design team have posted what people who had waited nearly ten years for the sequel will now miss.
Word on the street is that some other company is sniffing around and might give 3D a bit of cash to take the poisoned chalice off its hands before it installs the big 'game over' sign above the door. µ
I hope someone takes over the franchise and does something with it. I was looking forward to playing Duke again but like almost everyone else got tired of waiting. There are a lot of good developers out there & one should take it up and make something out of it.
come on readers - type in some words of support for one of the pioneers of the 1st person shooter!
i hope something materialises. duke is a meat eating, red blooded alpha male - the ideal role model for gaming nerds the world over.
hail to the king, baby!
Had 3D Realms just released par / sub par Games during that 10 Year Period they'd probably would've been rolling in it.
I suppose the moral to this story is there is no such thing as a perfect Game.
(at least not since the internet came along to offer after-market "Patches" to finish up Games that should've been finished before they "Went Gold"...
.. to release teasers, demos and screenshots. Real work is in finishing something and graphics (how it looks) is VERY secondary. If they had the whole gameplay dome and perfected with box-like models (or any freely available models) and no effect whatsoever, then it would be a POC to finish the rest of the game. This way they just did and redid the graphics every time some new graphics card generation came out.
And believe me, it's not the fault of developers or programmers. This is a direct consequence of mismanagement of the development. The guy who managed this should commit seppuku. But I bet he just got off with great salary for last 10 years.
Valve is about the only company I can see that would finish the game correctly. If you don't know who valve is google half life.
I read somewhere that Take2 offered them 30 million for the franchise. I won't question their decision not to, I know the Duke franchise could be worth allot more but at least Take2 might have finished it.
Forget Duke Nukem, bring back Shadow Warrior ;-)
Did you really have to call them "3D" instead of "3DRealms" and "Nukum"...
I find your lack of respect disturbing...
*raises hand to do a force choke*
I remember playing the original Duke Nukem 1&2 side-scrollers on my old 386 whithebox. Ah, those were the days...
What a scam. The investment bankers of the games industry. I'd love to loaf for 10 years and still get paid too. Some crappy stills after 10 years? Whoever buys the franchise needs to stipulate that the "team" doesn't come with it.
I just watched the video. In one scene, Duke jumps on top of a creature and apparently jacks off a monster phallus until it falls off. And listen to that voice acting. It is MISERABLE.
Release it under GPL and it really would be Duke Nukem "Forever".
This is actually Week Old, & you read here about Blu ray support & Wii. Yet least you forget: Since Windows 7 won't be available for retail sales until October, Microsoft has been working on Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista to boost sales until Windows 7 hits the market. Microsoft has made the RTM version of Vista SP2 downloadable to the members-only MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) and Microsoft TechNet. Vista SP2 torrents have already started to appear.
Vista SP2 contains all Vista updates released by Microsoft since Service Pack 1. Since Vista and Windows Server 2008 share the same codebase, SP2 for Vista includes the same updates for Server 2008. SP2 isn't cumulative, so a fresh Vista installation will require SP1 for SP2 to be slipstreamed. Redundantly Yours, X.
buy the rights to the game and get it out there.
We want those exotic dancers swaying to the beat.
Shake it baby !!
Knowing Duke's character and the somewhat explicit content, I'd say Take Two would do a better job than Valve.
Afterall, it was Duke's antic that made the game famous.
I watched the clicp, they look great. I can say they can release anytime with confidence....
The sad slow death of 2 epic franchises that includes Shadow Warrior. The question is are we better off with basking in the memories of true gaming classics or being disappointed in a lackluster sequel that diminishes the franchise namesake?
While disappointed, I can't be angry as their unfulfilled promises of a sequel can't begin to deplete the fond memories and appreciation for the original releases. I retain 100% respect for the fallen heroes.
here is something shacknews didnt post

I have extremely vague memories of a low-graphic 2.5D Doom style game called Duke Nukem. It was utterly uninspiring and one of many mindless clone shareware games I played when I was too poor to be a discerning gamer.
Over the years many a great gaming legends have released multiple volumes in all genres: Thief, Civilization, Elder Scrolls, Unreal Tournament, Doom, Quake, Fallout, Far Cry, Bioshock, Wolfenstein, all the WW2 FPS games I bypass, Half Life, all the sports games I bypass, Grand Theft Auto, etc.
New games have come out and innovated or improved standards of gameplay: Deus Ex, Crysis, Spore, World in Conflict, etc.
Duke Nukem is an irrelevance. The only credibility it had lay in the unmet expectations it had repeatedly raised in people.
Well, I've lost all interest in this much out of date franchise - there are plenty of other games out there that have pretty much done or fulfilled all the things that a Duke Nukem game could have done.
Ho hum.
I want this game, as im sure do many others. Looking through the video, you'd have to be stupid not to release it!
If 3D Realms don't want to sell it, how about releasing the code and going down in history?!
This could spring an open source 3D engine that doesn't suck for a start.
I grew tired of DNF news five years ago. can we please bury this zombie and be done with it ?
