WHILE MOST electronics companies are wearing sackcloth and covering their heads with ashes this quarter, Japan's Nintendo has made record profits.
According to AFP, Nintendo's annual net profit rose 8.5 per cent to £1.9 billion, easily beating its own earlier forecasts.
It claimed that the video game industry had been less affected than most by the global economic downturn, despite a drop in consumer spending.
However it did not think that will last. It predicted that it will have its first drop in operating profit in four years in the next quarter and that worldwide sales of the DS handheld console will fall slightly this year.
However, it thinks there will be a fairly steady stream of Wii sales for the rest of this year, the company said. µ
People losing their jobs = people with more free time = wii/ds sales increase.
Filling the blank in our free time is quite cheap actually, as anyone can afford any nintendo console. Nintendo is really smart, I wish they have been greenier, they would have been one of the best companies in the world.
Basically, the ideal credit crunch console (like the alliteration?). Cheap to buy, cheap to run, plenty of decent budget games (esp. for the casual gamer, which has been the market that's ballooned with the Wii), and yes, lots of fun in the inevitable downtime...
The greenness - not actually that bad, and very low power usage is the icing on the cake. Ignore the misinformed Greenpeace b*ll*cks, that's just because they won't reply to the stupid surveys.
its very good value...for a lot of people, games are free, without even mod chipping thx to backup loader apps....and as long as they making $ on the hardware, i guess they dont care , everyones a winner
did someone say piracy, the better choice? (tm)
