APPLE ACCIDENTLY TOLD its users something useful a couple of days ago.
Computerworld hacks spotted an advert saying that the fruit themed toymaker wanted to hire engineers to test Macintosh hardware with 3G wireless WAN cards.
The job was in connection with the Mac Hardware Group, and involved testing and reporting hardware, software, and device driver bugs for Communications technologies including AirPort 802.11a/b/g/n wireless, Bluetooth v2.0, gigabit Ethernet, and 3G Wireless WAN in a detailed, timely manner.
Now while the Apple fanbois would deny that anything made by Apple could have any bugs, the advert indicated that Jobs' Mob was looking for people to test 3G Wireless WAN gear, which means that Apple must be working up a line of laptops or other kit with built-in 3G radios.
If Apple is rolling that tech out to laptops, or anything else that's not an Iphone, that will be a significant bit of news and certainly not something that Steve Jobs or one of his surrogates has announced.
Apple's response was not to 'fess up, of course. Instead, when the press office heard about the advert it immediately pulled it.
The company is denying having anything to do with 3G Wireless WAN computing gear. We guess that means it will sic its horde of rabid fans on any IT publication that prints such a claim. µ

They filled the position...
I know the Jobs mob are renowned for doing their own thing, but given the number of non fruit-themed laptops/netbooks currently available with built in 3G, they would be silly not to.
