Acer expects laptop sales to take off

After dismal first quarter
Tuesday, 5 May 2009, 17:45

TAIWAN'S ACER announced results for the first quarter today, and said it expects sales of portable PCs to grow 30 to 40 per cent in the last half of 2009.

The company reported Q1 2009 sales of $3.582 billion and net profit of about $61 million, down 31 per cent from the same period last year.

However, Acer said it anticipates that its sales of notebooks and netbooks will increase by 30 to 40 per cent in the second half of this year and expects to take the lead in global shipments of portable PCs away from HP by the end of 2010.

The company didn't break down its expectations for portable PC sales growth between larger, more expensive notebooks and smaller, lower-cost netbooks. Acer recently launched a new ultra-portable notebook and has a broad array of popular netbook models.

Acer also said it expects to ship 10 to 12 million netbooks this year, down from its earlier forecast of 12 to 15 million. µ

Want to look good in front of your mafia/triad boss with 'Rosey Specs 4.3' ?... then you need different 'reading on the bog' - only available from the 'Surrey Suckers'.
