US needs a cyber defence force

Insecurity Even if you can't shoot conflicker
Tuesday, 5 May 2009, 13:15

THE US ARMY needs a cyber defence force to match those in China and Russia, according to US top brass.

According to AP plans are under way to use a new command at a Maryland Army facility to create a digital warfare force for the future.

Lt. Gen. Keith Alexander, who is the US's cyber war leader said that computer training for the Pentagon's work force is inadequate and must be improved.

One of his problems is that the US military strategy is to shoot everything that you can't blow up and you can't really do that with malware. µ

will they never learn?

once again america's aggressive behaviour is motivated by fear of what other people 'might do'

they are trapped in a subroutine entitled 'fear'

We had one and it was canned

I believe the US already had a defence force run by the US Airforce that was canned sometime back in 2004-2007. I don't recall the exact date.

It wasn't canned

The Cyber Command was not canned per se. After the resignation of the Secretary of the Air Force for issues with our nuclear capability, it was decided to redefine a strategic command that included cyber and nuclear capabilities. There are active units in the defunct Cyber command that will be moved under this new strategic umbrella.

And lets face it, any country in the world would be stupid to dismiss the threat or capabilities that other countries do not have military units dedicated to this task. Especially a country or region that is heavily dependant on the internet.

Ha!

Unlike Euro-peon or Asian attitude to cower and whimper like sissy gay boys when confronted, Americans don't give up without a fight. You don't like our "aggressive attitude"? Too damn bad, I am going to do what I need to do to protect my family. If that means vaporizing a few billion uppity Chinese who think they deserve to live, well, that's their problem!

You are all jealous because all the really smart people decided to leave everywhere else and come here.

the more things change

WAKE UP!!!! This is just like the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the Patriot Bill which was supposed to protect us from "terrorists" but in turn is used to police the American population. Cyber-security and cyber defence WILL be an arm of the government that will used as further control and policing of the citizens it claims it wants to protect.

Looks like you are wearing a tin hat. Come now, who really believes that kind of nonsense?

We have a digital need to have a defense from cyber attacks and the legal authorization to shut down botnets and spammers and people clearly breaking the law. If you are really too stupid to understand that, then just go pour some water right onto your computer and do us all a favor.

pentagon nets

Like the nuclear bomb gap, this cyber war gap is fiction. Just another excuse to syphon more money into the DoD instead of doing useless things like providing education and health care.

Does anyone really believe for an instant that there is no cyber section in the u.s. military? Come on! With all the spending on future war systems there's no way they have not already jumped on this. There are undoubtedly big bot farms already testing the response of foreign nations to cyber attacks and simulating attacks on domestic networks. Like the tip of the iceberg, this is just the part that is showing.

@ viscountalpha

Funny how you had to resort to bullying when in reality I probably have more physical and mental strength then you on my worst day. BTW, if passed HR1966 would make it a felony for you to submit another post targeted towards me.

The government loves us, they did NOT just rob the US Citizen of trillions and .1% do not rule the world... keep telling yourself that.
