White as a sheet

ASUS has released a new superthin, white netbook in Blighty. Dubbed the Eee-pc-1008ha-seashellEee PC 1008HA Seashell, it is just an inch thin and weighs 1.1kg, making it the most powerful and portable Eee PC to date. It comes with a 10-inch display which is not bad either.

Powered by the new Intel Atom N280 processor, it has 1GB of RAM and 170GB of hybrid storage with a 160GB hard disk drive and 10GB of free online storage.

It features built-in support for 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 1.3 mega pixel integrated webcam so you can keep connected wherever you may be. It runs on Windows XP.

It is being flogged in the UK for £350 so it is not the cheapest of netbooks, but then it can do a bit more. µ

Netbooks good, screen rez bad

I like netbooks, but I don't think I will replace my eeepc 1000ha until something with much better screen resolution is available.

If you want to have some real fun...

Try to figure out how far back in time you have to go to find a desktop that has the same approximate computing specs for around the same price.

I bet it won't be more than a decade. I've heard, but not verified, that whatever a desktop can do, you'll be able to get in a laptop approximately 3 years later for the same approximate price, and in a handheld 4 years after that.

@Jason Goatcher

while you are at it, why dont you look back and see how far back did you have to pay for a PC with same spec and price of an iphone? or a psp for that matter

arh~~ now you get the irony, and now you finally understand it is not about specs, it is about battery life and portability.

No lozenge keyboard?

Shame about that, I rather liked it on the 1000HE. Still, otherwise it's a very nice design and still vaguely in-line with the pricing of the rest of the netbooks out there.
