UNVEILED AT at this year’s Infosec security show in London was the world’s first free cloud-based virus-buster from Panda security.
Other companies, with yellow and red logos *cough* do have quick fix offerings based online if you become infected but these are really only one time deals. Panda now has a black and white, clear-cut solution to online security with an almost thin client approach to the running and upkeep of this software.
Panda claims the offering takes up less than half the system resources than others, but that would surely depend on what system and OS is running said computers, with netbooks being taken into account. With a very low install base with all the process and processing being done at the server end, this can be achieved Obviously, you do need to stay online for the latest updates and its running of course, that’s where the vulnerabilities lay – all of which is a Catch 22 process, in itself.
Without throwing too much technical garbage your way, normal solutions rely on a variety of different methods of virus recognition and scanning resulting in heavy heavy processing usage and the install base for the software. Whereas ‘Pandas In The Sky’ (not their name, but ours) can do all of this without killing the computer's resources – a solution which could be ideal for small SSD based netbooks, as it’s only 17MB.
This new cloudbuster, which includes everything from AV, Anti spyware and rookit detection can be obtained here. µ
Typically, how much bandwidth per month will be used for a PC running XP / Vista / or Win7 if the PC has e.g. 1TB of hard drive capacity?
It would appear that the bottom end of Inq stainers is about to intersect the rarefied clarity of the more lucid Drashek comments. Woe unto we few, we puzzled, we readers!
I tested the beta and it is really small. It detected 1 virus in my machine ... which was a very big surprise as I do very safe surfing
I look forward to seeing how it performs overtime
The download is IE only.
I will not accept Bitdefender on the same machine.
Sad stupidities.
@Lars: I got it using Opera, is just a simple installer, how could be IE only?? And most antivirus complain if there's another one in the machine (even if it's the same brand) because there might be incompatibilities fighting for resources and supervision of the proccesses in the computer.
It is fast and looks stable, lets see how it copes with new malware.
We used to use Panda Antivirus suite at our company... let me tell you, it's got to be one of the worst offerings out there. It was always creating problems with applications, not updating, causing apps to crash. We got rid of it, and haven't looked back... this new plan is just horrifying to me.
