Gays banned from being Jedis

Hands off my light sabre, young Skywalker
Wednesday, 29 April 2009, 11:29

THE IMPERIAL forces at Bioware have decided that homosexuality does not exist in Star Wars and Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi were just good friends.

According to Kotaku, Bioware has been purging references to homosexuality in the Old Republic.

A thread complaining about those threads being locked, along with the words "homosexual", "lesbian" and "gay" being censored on the boards has now also been locked.

BioWare's community manager Sean Dahlberg has posted that such terms do not exist in Star Wars and therefore the threads are closed.

We guess that means that questions about wheither or not you wear shades in a Jawah brothel, the implications of a 'Debbie does Tatooine' movie or discussions as to why a species like Jabba the Hut would be turned on by a scantily clad Princess Leia will also be on ice. After all no one in Star Wars has sex and no Jedi ever feels another's force. µ

sounds familiar

Jedis, weren't they into celibacy, like another large religion that has hung around a millenia or 2 ?
Could not have the same issues with the staff getting... urges, shorely.

Bad way of doing things

Would it be too hard to make an 18+ discussion subforum for topics like this?
Then the community would be appeased and Bioware would not be in the crosshairs of the gay/lesbian/bi rights groups.
Bioware usually was at the forefront of the gay/lesbian movement by depicting gay, lesbian, group and interracial relations.
I hope that it's just one overzealous forum admin doing what he thought appropriate and we will not have such constraints in future Bioware titles.
I for one actually enjoyed trying all possibilities in Jade Empire.

Hold it in, Jedi!

No-one goes to the toilet in Star Wars, either. Close all toilet-related threads at once!

Your answer to a multi-choice question was "no" - classic! :c)

@Deimios

Why should discussion of Homosexuality be put into a 18+? Would the same rules apply for straight relationships? Its stuff like that which promotes that gays are different from straights.

Myself.I've always had the urge to go in by the front door.

Gives Open "GL" NEW Meanings....

Luke Was Princess' Brother & Capt. Ford Married Princess At End. Sounds Like Ordinary Barker Gang Sling.

Now to turn things around, its LG, obvious connection of letters. If Princess Had Cell phone, Galactic System Could of Saved Some Monies & Fuel.

Was Death Star Really Steam Room? How Did Chwie Know Codes & Live In Trees? ALL These Questions & More must Be Answered Before Virgin RIP. Remember ANOS has One Purpose: iB M. Its' Health Issue, Astrological Issue & Religious Curiosity.STeWie drashek

Compromise, not discriminate

Yes any sexually themed discussion (regardless of orientation) should be done in an 18+ subforum. I do not say that it's a solution that I like, but it is a compromise that both parties can agree on.
I say that we need an option to allow people to filter it out themselves. Some people don't like reading about sexual orientation on a forum? Simple, don't go to the 18+ one. NOT ban/close any discussion about the subject, or if you do ban then don't discriminate.

The major 2 religions of the world being the most homophobic, it is desirable to avoid being a target of their attention. That and the shouting mob of mothers who instead of parenting try to destroy anything that doesn't fit their fluffy pink worldview in the name of protecting the children.

In one line:
Don't give in, but don't provoke either.

@ gay evaluator

Of course he did.

Luke got kissed by Leia in SW:ESB and he deffinatly had a chuffed look on his face.

Anyway it's possible that Poofs are from Earth only; With a dispraportionate amount in the SE of England.

What?@!

Seriously, is that the goal of every agenda pushing gay rights movement is to say that the best set of movies ever was full of quieres?

Honestly, the can take a P!$$ off break and if they want quieres in movies just have them watch brokeback mountain movie over and over on the loop.

I have no prob with quieres but i have an issue with all agenda pushing types str8 or gay.

sort of makes sense

The issue was "As I have stated before, these are terms that do not exist in Star Wars."

So you can't say "lesbian" or "homosexual." That's cool.

Just call them men who like to have sexual relationships with men or women who like to have sexual relationships with women.

Problem solved. No offensive^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H non-existent words required.

Who Cares

Are Jedi into bondage? Who cares! Why does the homosexual agenda have to be brought up in every facet of our life. Keep your sex life in the closet. I don't care if you're gay, into S&M or whatever, it doesn't need to be public knowlege.

@Deimios

Whether referring to gays or straights, there's more to sexual orientation than sex; the American Psychological Association defines it as an individual's sense of "personal and social identity based on those attractions, behaviors expressing them, and membership in a community of others who share them."

None of this is 18+ content, and censoring it in any way (even your suggestion of restricting it to adult audiences) is yet another way of marginalizing gay identity and continuing the belief that there should be different treatment of gays as there is to straights.

If sexual acts (regardless of sexual orientation) were discussed, that would be inappropriate. Otherwise, there's no need to censor people on a large part of their identity. Even worse, bowing to *anticipated* backlash from "the major 2 religions of the world ... to avoid being a target of their attention" is never the answer to preventing such discrimination.

rights

We must remember that our rights stop where another person's begins. Meaning, people who create the games have the right to do and say as they please in the situation. This is why TOS (terms of service) are crated in the first place.
