APPLE'S CONTROL of the media seems to have no bounds, as hacks are apparently unable to retain objectivity about the fruit themed company. Below are quotes from newspaper stories that could have been (and possibly were) written by Apple PR spinners.
"Steve Jobs a 'national treasure'" Maggie Shiels of the BBC, using Licence Payer fee money to praise an ailing Steve Jobs on his sick bed.
"Everybody has Apple envy - even Larry Ellison." Time's Josh Quittner claiming that Oracle buying Sun is just like something Steve Jobs would do - only he never did.
"Mac computers are known for their near-immunity to malicious computer programs that plague PCs." CNN's John Sutter's intro for a story about a virus in a Mac. Not even Apple claims that its hardware is immune to viruses, it just says no one writes them for the Mac.
The Associated Press seems to think that consumer gadgets change cultures and designing them makes you a visionary. It says,"Apple announced on January 14 that Jobs, 54, the visionary behind the culture-changing Macintosh computer, iPod and iPhone, would be taking a leave of absence."
"The iPhone is more than just a successful hardware product. With its telephone and internet access, it is driving the real-time communications revolution. Without the iPhone, Facebook and Twitter wouldn't have taken off so dramatically." The Independent ignores falling Mac and Iphone sales to claim that Apple has not felt any bite from the current recession and is responsible for all the wonders we see on the Internet.
Then there's an Apple fanboi rag...
MacDaily News rushes to claim that Apple's SEC 10-Q filing has been misunderstood by "Mac haters". After all, the function of the press is to interpret a company's results in a way that makes the company look good. "...Apple shares will be back above $200 before you know it."
And "AdMob: iPhone surpasses Symbian in mobile web use." MacDaily News also looked at AdMob's March 2009 metrics report and overlooked the fact that AdMob measured ad requests to mobile webpages and mobile apps and ignored stripped-down mobile web pages. Apple dreams of matching Symbian.
This list was quickly cobbled together, but if you happen to spot more examples of extreme Apple worship in the supposedly independent and objective (cough!) press, do send them in. µ
It's amusing how many people actively seek out the very thing they don't like in order to better criticize it.
I mean, it's not like the author's name is hidden and you only see it when you're finished the article.
No, the author's name is right at the top.
So, all you Nick-haters out there, if you really don't like his articles, why are you reading them ?
Oh, I know. It's like the group of old hags who religiously hate the widow down the street, but go there every Sunday afternoon for tea in order to better criticize whatever they see there for the rest of the week.
www.MacDailyNews.com is sort of Macturbatory self-flamebaiting fanboism taken to the "28 Days Later" level. Everyone ought to experience it at least once.
(and no, Apple users don't simply love their Macs: they tolerate them better than their Windows counterparts. Visit any decent Mac forum and you'll read about all the Mac flaws we loathe)
HP started the "i" gadget naming thing with it's iPaq. Another hand held internet touchscreen gadget.
Apple's iPod is a blatant copy of HP's iPaq.
HP should be suing Apple.
Put some more applesauce on those fanbois!
Nothing better than the smell of fanboy-catching articles in the morning.
Wow, I feel like I'm the only person who agrees with Nick. Anyhow, nice work.
Nick needed some Apple "Fanboy Luv" today. The INQ is the only news outlet that isn't kissing the feet of Saint Jobs.
It's bashing news sites that have reprinted apple press releases and raved about how great they are.
As one poster has already stated, this is a bit rich coming from Nick Farrell who is guilty of exactly the same lazy reporting.
Lol so cliché. 1/3 of the articles are on how microsoft suck (especially windows 7), 1/3 on how Apple is great and the last 1/3 on Steeve everyday life ( Did you know Steeve didn't use is private jet in the last 6 month? No way !)
There are various types of envy and Apple envy is the type that Nick suffers from.
Apple users simply love their Macs and their iPhones. Why does it upset you so much that Dell, Motorola, and HP users don't similarly love their computers or cell phones? Could it be because they're not very good?
Why are you so upset with Apple?
I think you're doing a great job Nick, you write about IT and actually know how most of it works, which is more than you can say about the high class rags you mentioned in the article. Too bad you don't sound as professional as the *ahem* journalists at cnet / zdnet.
Sometimes your right and sometimes you're blinded by hate, but then again, so are all of us techies who have to put up with these companies bullsh*t every day. Keep the guns loaded.
Nick, between that crap you've linked to and your own reporting, there's enough tripe reporting out there to fuel fanboy arguments for decades.
You're just as guilty of pedalling FUD, except when you do it it's of course 'sarcasm' and 'wit'.
Perhaps one day you'll get your own house in order.
Farrell Watch
A run down of innacurate, poorly researched and suspiciously biased articles written by Nick Farrell.
The birds sing the prases of Mr. Jobs, The monkeys beat the drumbs of Mr. Balmer.
And yes i am bored.
