Unix conversions the way forward

Nibble Big Blue claims
Friday, 24 April 2009, 12:11

DESPITE RESULTS that he is not very proud of, IBM CFO Mark Loughridge claims that Biggish Blue is making a fair bit of cash converting Unix servers to Linux.

Loughridge said that IBM convinced 62 CIOs to rip and replace Unix systems last quarter. He added that Linux MIPS were up more than 50%.

He also said that he is losing no sleep over the loss of the Sun deal to Oracle either, because the market for big tin servers and other types of computing hardware in which Sun specialises has dried up across the board amid the recession. µ

Linux is not Unix

Linux is a "Unix-like" system. It doesn't contain any code from any real Unixes such as BSD, and it isn't Single UNIX Specification certified.

For a tech journalist your grasp of technology is horrific. Have you ever considered getting a job with the BBS as a technology correspondent?

@Gordon

The article doesn't say Linux is UNIX. I don't know where you got that from, unless you misinterpreted the title ("conversion" here means "from Unix" not "to Unix" in this case, as is clear if you read the actual article again.)

For a poster on a tech board your reading comprehension is, well, about average actually. i.e absolutely horrific.
