China attacks NYPD computers

Unfair cop says China
Fri Apr 24 2009, 10:25

CHINESE HACKERS allegedly have been trying to break into the computer systems of the New York Police Department for some reason. NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said computer hackers based in China have been making some 70,000 attempts daily.

It is not clear why China would be so interested in New York's finest, but Kelly thinks it is because of his coppers' record of 'international arrests' and the fact the deparment tends to deal with terrorists since September 11.

IP addresses of computers attempting to breach the NYPD's computer systems have been tracked to China, the Netherlands and the Ukraine. It appears that the hackers have devised botnets that make 5,000 attempts a day at finding unsecured portals into the NYPD's files.

Chinese government officials have denied involvement in computer spying, however. China claims that people outside China are bent on fabricating lies and that the notion of Chinese hackers raiding western computer networks is all a myth. µ

More Hmmmmm

I'm still trying to figure out what a "Yank" is.
From Wikipedia:
Hastings of Cambridge, Massachusetts, was attributed around 1713 to regularly using the word as a superlative, generally in the sense of excellent.

In 1758 British General James Wolfe referred to the New England soldiers under his command as Yankees: "I can afford you two companies of Yankees."

It also used to refer to residents of New England. Do the people living in Maine always blame the commies?
And if so, why?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Intentionally Dense

You clowns seem to thrive on being intentionally dense. While it is possible that the attacks aren't under the control of the Chinese gov't in some way, it is also quite possible that it is. If you believe the Chinese do not commit espionage and computer hacking you are living in a make believe world created by your intentionally dense mind.

not completley on topic

"China claims that people outside China are bent on fabricating lies and that the notion of Chinese hackers raiding western computer networks is all a myth."
F China's government.

If you notice every time Tibet is mentioned in the news (always Fox) they add the BS that Tibet had a failed uprising against China in 1959. When it was actually a Chinese military invasion that slaughtered thousands of unarmed monks and citizens verging on genocide.
Sorry, I hate their government almost as much as our Congress and Senate.

Botnets

Surely all the IP addresses are only pointing to the botnet mentioned, thus the hackers could be from anywhere. Typical Yank attitude though "Oh noes, something happened....blame the commies! They apparently don't want an economy modelled after our own for some reason!"

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
