Each snowflake in an avalanche pleads not guilty - Stanislaw J. Lec
INSTEAD OF wasting time trying to protect users from botnet malware, it is probably better to hit the hackers in the pocketbook, an Internet insecurity expert has claimed.
Joe Stewart, a security researcher at SecureWorks, said that disrupting the hackers' business model would make it more difficult for them to make money off their attacks.
One way to do that would be to encourage victims to seek reimbursement when they are charged for things like trojan infested software that masquerades as a legitimate antivirus application, he said. µ

I still like my modest proposal: Rip the malware makers/users/promoters out of their comfy home at some inopportune time, be it 0300hrs or 1000hrs, and made to run a gauntlet about two miles long lined with people who's computer have been compromised and/or data lost by malware. The people composing the gauntlet would have rocks and sticks at their disposal. No firearms. If they make it to the end, then criminal charges are filed against them. Yup, no mercy. I know, I know. Putting them at the mercy of lawyers is inhuman.

Eno Master: If we make the gauntlet twice as long can we please, oh please not be thrown to the lawyers? We'd prefer a tank full of hungry sharks. Anything but the lawyers!
Only if the second half of this double-sized gauntlet is for the lawyers.
