NEARLY 60 PER CENT of China's semiconductor manufacturing capacity was unused in the last three months, according market researcher Isuppli.
Chinese manufacturers have only 43 per cent of their production capability running at the moment, down from 92 per cent in the second quarter of 2004.
With figures like these, Isuppli thinks that China's goal of establishing a strong semiconductor production industry is in "serious jeopardy."
Isuppli director and chief analyst for semiconductor manufacturing Len Jelinek said that the establishment of a technologically strong Chinese semiconductor industry was considered an essential element of China's long-term domestic economic and technological independence.
However that glorious five year plan has collapsed as global sales fell before internal demand could grow to replace demand from the rest of the world.
While Isuppli sees China's utilisation figures getting a little better this year and improving to about 85 per cent in 2012 and 2013, by the time that happens there will be blood spilt by consolidation, it reckons. µ

Maybe a more interesting and apposite story is Intel moving capacity from Shanghai to Chengdu (Sichuan, South West China - where it already had a plant). SMIC is there too.
A more subtle and helpful analysis would be to see how busy local chip design houses are.
Cheers
One thing that might sell shipLoad of chips per appliance is high refresh LCd on market that have probs, ethier too much signal or not enough or too big or sumthun'makes pixel clumpng on edges of large color fields. So why not add whole bunch of chips to hold together lcd signal & display to focus clean sharp image 4" from screen? Add stuff to bring whats already on production, to useable quality. Maybe Even Make Better Parts.
In Transistors, As Each set of Gates migrates into larger array of tranistora from often beginnings as Software, smaller scales reduce need for capacity, Plus Aging infastructure & stock slow replace rate. Smaller Stuff does More.
What General Motors NEEDS Is Less People. CAD/CAM Tranistors? internet Salespeages? Inexpensive, yet workable stuff Electronic?from Recent past. How About Free ShangHaiee' W/Everypurchase.Vote Lullar. drashek
Dashek made sense in a post. I read the whole thing and my brain doesn't hurt.
Does this mean the world is cumming to an end?
The miracle of modern pharmacology has made Drashek comprehensible.
Itanium is large enough to land an F-18 on and it would use all the production in China. It would also provide full utilization for all the new coal power plants that China is building since Itanium uses 130W each. China should than force everyone in China to buy at least one Itanium computer.
Drashek is a bot, obviously.
the real story on this page indeed is that drashek bot is becoming more sentient! i think drashek = skynet....run to the hills unplug your pcs from internet :) ....
