CoolIT develops Nehalem EP cooling system

Ice-ing on the cake

CANADIAN FIRM COOLIT certainly has not been chilling out since the release of its prize winning Domino Advanced Liquid Cooling system back in January. Now, after securing UK and Ireland distribution, we hear the firm is already all over Intel's Nehalem EP.

The closed-loop Domino ALC system, with its high temperature-withstanding ceramic bearing pump, its fan and digital LCD display is already doing well in North America. The design has won some 40 awards - including the prestigious CES Innovation award - and is now coming to the UK at a retail price of around £75, with Realtime being appointed exclusive distributor for the UK and Ireland.

Meanwhile, we hear that three samples of CoolIt's new Nehalem EP cooling system are already doing the rounds, and we've even managed to get our grubby paws on some top secret, grainy, slightly out-of-focus pics to prove it.

Scan-ep
The sneaky snaps show the CoolIT offering sports a 240x120mm rad and two 1366 waterblocks in series. Sadly, the pics we have don't show the controller, but we're told the system doesn't sport an LCD like Domino but does still have a small button which beeps once for silent mode, twice for balanced mode and three times for performance.

Intel's Nehalem EP platform relies on a good thermal delta to reach its full potential turbo mode, with the chips overclocking themselves if they are sufficiently cool.

Since one doesn't overclock the Nehalem EP, the only thing one can really do is to ensure the system is well cooled so it can turbo. The X5550 chip, for instance, will turbo almost to W5580 performance if cooling is good, so the CoolIt EP cooler should do the job nicely.

Intel already endorses the Domino and our secret source tells us Chipzilla will be getting samples of the EP cooling system any day now.

From the name on the image files sent to us by our source, it appears the system is already being put through its paces by Scan and we're told release is near imminent.
Pricing should apparently come close to a cool $130.

Looks like the firm is all set for global cooling. µ
