Windows 7 release candidate to tip up in two weeks

May be May, maybe not
Monday, 20 April 2009, 09:20

YET ANOTHER LEAK has sprung regarding Microsoft's upcoming Windows 7 release, this time with the firm's partner programme web site noting the release candidate will be good to go before May 5th, just two weeks from now.

The page, reading: "Partners: If you have a subscription to MSDN or TechNet, you can download Windows 7 RC now, otherwise, you can download Windows 7 RC starting May 5, 2009," came to the beady eyed attention of Tech enthusiast site Neowin on Saturday afternoon.

It should mean paying subscribers to Microsoft's developer and IT services are already able to download the release candidate, but a link to the download bumped people to TechNet where no mention of Windows 7 RC could be found.

This could be an innocent slip-up on Micro$haft's part, but more likely it's yet another ploy to build up the buzz amongst potential punters. The evidence points to the latter, as it's already the second time in three weeks that a Volish web site has made like a Welshman and leaked info about the Windows 7 RC.

When a Mighty-Soft spokesperson was asked what was going on, she replied that the "download page briefly posted on the Microsoft Windows Partner Solution site page [w]as part of the regular testing of Microsoft properties." She refused to confirm a May 5th Windows 7 RC release date.

Needless to say, there was also no mention of a release date for the unwashed masses either. µ

Awesome.

I've been messing around with the beta and some versions after and its a really solid build. wonder what exactly will be new in the RC.

Not An Actual “Candidate” For Release

What Microsoft calls a “release candidate” is what everyone else calls a “beta”.

Technet availability

So I guess I will ask the obvious question... is it available on Technet yet?

history blatantly repeating....

windows 7 is great but the only downside is you need several quad core cpus and 16 gig of ram just to run notepad!
anything less and it will be outperformed by a zx81...

Quad core?

Sorry, Inspiron 8200, P4 1.7GHz, 768MB PC2700.
Works quite well, aside from the lack of driver support for the Geforce 4 440 Go.

Comparable performance to XP, *much* faster than Vista.

Not on MSDN...

I logged into MSDN and didn't see anything new under Windows 7. Only the beta release (build 7000) from January 8.

Idiots

I like all the comments from people who have obviously never installed or ran Windows 7. I have it running on an old HP laptop and it runs better than XP did. I also have it loaded at home in a VMware Workstation 6 machine with 1 processor and 512mb RAM and I have all features including Aero (Workstation 6 does directx 9c graphic acceleration now). It runs fantastic. So the comments about several quad cores and 16gb of ram to run notepad is trolling nonsense.

Quad Core???

Sorry you must be confusing it with Vista .. I run Win 7 beta on a P4 2.2GHz (single Core) 1.5 GB ram (DDR 1) ATI Radeon 9800 pro Vid card (512MB) and a 60GIG HDD (for OS) and it flies, its even faster than XP that i use. And Vista just laughs at all of that and groans it's way to life very very very sloowwllyy then promptly crashes completely locked solid
