Ubuntu's 9.04 release can't get Oracle certification

Jaunty Jackalope ignored
Fri Apr 17 2009, 15:07

UBUNTU'S 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope apparently can't get certification to run Oracle software.

Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu told Internet News that he was not too worried even if Oracle is pretty important in Linux land.

He said that Oracle was a litmus test for enterprise readiness so Oracle certification is "far more important to us as a public testament to the reliability and ruggedness of Ubuntu than it is in terms of sheer volume".

Oracle's top Linux exec, Wim Coekaerts, director of Linux engineering said that he had not had any requests for Ubuntu Oracle. He said that until Ubuntu creates a big enough noise in the server market he will not bother with it. µ

Huh?

I dunno what he's talking about. I run Oracle on Ubuntu just fine. All you have to do is tell the installer to ingnore the system pre requisites. What I find interesting is that Oracle does take the time out of its day to create a .deb for Oracle Express Edition, but for some reason can't seem to find the time to install it like I do and run whatever 'certification' it has to. Sounds like a great way for an intern to spend an afternoon.

What a strange PR

If you want Oracle - and I'm in no way suggesting that is usually a well-formed idea - then the OS is but a mote. All you need is something that will be supported on your iron for as close to a decade as possible.
If there is any money left after cutting the check to Larry, you'll need to spend it on trying to keep Oracle from corrupting your data for the rest o&*s (##0wq9ee.

As expected

As expected, Linux zealots answer as follows:

1. Oracle is not important

2. It is not Ubuntu's fault

3. _____ (insert name here) has not been paid to accept Ubuntu.

In my book that makes their RDF (Reality Distortion Field) bigger than those shielding the Apple fanboys.

Ubuntu vs. Oracle

Like, Oracle needs to support Ubuntu, or the other way around ?
Oh, I get it. Wim is signaling he hasn't been bought and paid for by Ubuntu. Shame. :)

??

And what's wrong with Ubuntu?

It runs the latest core.

Can run any Linux software thrown at it.

is easily configurable
Is stable when properly configured, just like any other OS.

Has much better community support

Has Google helping out with coding via android

So what it dosen't use KDE.....oh wait there is a KDE port....so what exactly is wrong with Ubuntu? that admin's wouldn't use?

Comment

Real sysadmins don't use Ubuntu.

not LTS

It wouldn't make much sense to certify non-LTS release in the first place.

Correction....

My first commentos, link got lost in paste so here again is the inquirer.net training: http://training.theinquirer.net/

Maybe its management decision to Lock Out public from Knowledge, yet Next: Binnary Strem is usually on or Dead Space, except in cpu itself, where dual voltages more quickly can be manipulated, However that is "Hexadecimal", unless unaltered or negated stream,Pure stream then which usually bypasses cpu after RUN, still as binary file of on/off Frequency Modulation only, unless more is required. BTW I had to Use: SEA Monkey to Post first post. drshek

Debian+PostgreSQL

Debian+PostgreSQL has been rocksolid solution on 10-something servers for me during last years.

And sure, I'm not the only one :)

MySQL/PostgreSQL

When you got MySQL/PostgreSQL who cares about Oracle?

Big enough?

I'd say he's talking about the size of his paycheck.

We have MySQL so who cares.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
