Microsoft patches 23 vulnerabilities

Ah those famous words from so many companies. What FUD, I never understood why so many companies small and large honestly believe that they get better support from MS then OpenSource. It reminds me of a co-worker who was trying to tell me that linux sucks pointing out how a "HUGE" security flaw had been discovered on all linux distro's early last year and he thought he had me at that point. I had mentioned to him that I had got this patched 3 days before it was even reported anywhere online.

Security 101, all flaws that are now discovered in the IT world (for the most part) are sent to the vendors and the vendors have approximately 1.5 months to fix it before it is reported to the rest of the world. This is how things are done these days. That meant that MS's flaws made public in February were actually discovered in December some time and so the systems were not just vulnerable for 1.5 months but over 3 months.

FYI to anyone the average timeframe that MS fixes flaws is 45 days. 45 days is more then enough time for a real hacker (not worms or bots) to coordinate their attack.

db, yeah, you really showed your co-worker back then that you smarter then him. you should be very happy that you are so smart. however if you are so smart is how is it that you can't understand thta your beloved linux is not universal solution.
it simply doesn't fit the needs of ALL PC users.

You sir are correct, I never said it met the needs of all users. I can say this with confidence though when it comes to businesses it does meet all needs. Home users on the other hand it does not, as much as I love linux I still have a windows install just to play games, wine does not cover the latest games and there is always a 10 to 30 FPS lost using wine.... mine you the older the game the less it is noticeable.

BTW when it comes to techies I tend to be a little more demanding, as a techie to complain that linux is too complicated is an insult to all technical people around the world.... we are the techs we should not fear any technology that comes our way nor should anyone who claims to be a technical person should complain about a system that is far more flexible then closed source developments.

I would also like to note that I currently work on a contract throguh IBM which has one of their top guys in the world on it as well. Want to know what his take is on linux and opensource in general .... take a wild guess, yep that's right one of IBM's top guys is in agreement with me on the benefits of opensource. Now I don't care how much smarter I am then anyone else we are all little insignificant hairless aps sitting on a infantessimally miniscule dirt ball flying through space. I just have a problem with git smugness of people who spend more of their time trying to be superior to others.

When I started working with computers in 1992 I thought the world of Microsoft and thought that no one could even come close to the perfectness that they are. With time I've learned many things. The one thing I could never understand is how the largest software developer in the world still can't get it fully together. Like come on they have more money then several countries in this world why can't they just blow everyone else out of the water with their quality.

But thank you tank for humbling me I sometimes do get a little over zealous at times.
