Iphone 3.0 gets third beta

The big push
Wed Apr 15 2009, 11:38

APPLE HAS FURTHER FANNED THE FLAMES surrounding the possible release of a new Iphone this summer by releasing a third update to the forthcoming Iphone 3.0 operating system.

The biggest change to the APIs, according to Ars Technica, comes in the way that updates and addition to existing apps are notified. In the past, updates were flagged by the Itunes Store app. Once 3.0 is up and running, individual apps will be able to notify users of updates or additional content in one of three ways, badge, text or alert.

Improvement have been made to the XIB files created by Interface Builder 3.1 and Dashcode – the IDE for creating Dashboard widgets – has been updated to allow the creation of optimised Web applications.

The small number of changes in this latest (and probably final) beta indicate that the testing programme has been a success and that plenty of new 3.0-optimised apps will be rolling out as soon as the OS is released. µ
