Sun exec slams Google

Nibble Java support 'wanton and irresponsible'
Tue Apr 14 2009, 12:50

SUN'S chief open-saucer Simon Phipps has slammed Google for only including support for a subset of Java classes in its cloud-based App Engine development platform.

Phipps said that creating subsets of the core classes in the Java platform was forbidden for a really good reason, and it's wanton and irresponsible for Google to casually flaunt the rules.

Google told Computerworld that it provided a Java 6 runtime environment in a secure sandbox and was committed to having as many standard Java tools and frameworks work with App Engine as possible. µ

"Phipps said that creating subsets of the core classes in the Java platform was forbidden for a really good reason, .."

Which is? Now don't be shy, Phippsy, spill the beans. There are surely many who would just love to know a really good reason rather than think of any number of bad or false reasons.

Failing Sun whines

That's the problem with these proprietary computer programming languages. The proprietor gets real pissy unless you do it his way.

I'd worry more about generating some income before I'd start whining about some silly little thing like this.

Do you think the move was justified?
